Inspiring Conversations with Meaghan Baker of The Baker Brokerage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meaghan Baker.

Hi Meaghan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have a B.S. degree in Sociology from MTSU and a minor in Social Welfare and Criminal Justice. I’ve always felt a calling to help people and was able to do just that as a Mental Health Caseworker post-college. It was a very rewarding job, especially seeing my clients make progress toward the goals we created. But at the end of the day I felt like I wasn’t doing enough. It felt as though the goal of the organization wasn’t to see people make so much progress they were out of services but instead to see them make just enough progress to see a semblance of stability but still rely on “the system.” Job security, I suppose. My husband and I had done a few “flips” of our personal residences, so I had a bit of experience in real estate. I ended up getting my license and started working as a Realtor in 2016. It has been the most rewarding venture. I love seeing people achieve their goals of home ownership, and first-time homebuyers hold a very special place in my heart. I’ve also enjoyed building an amazing team of agents at our firm, The Baker Brokerage. We offer a very generous compensation plan to our agents and love seeing them grow as people.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been a roller coaster. I’ve been through the crazy post-Covid market and quieter markets as well. I’ve worked with some amazing clients as well as some that I’ve had to eventually part ways with because we just weren’t a good fit for each other. I’ve also had to overcome some of my own discomforts and really put myself out there in ways that I never thought I was capable of. But it’s all been great and made me who I am today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are a family owned brokerage with a God first focus. We hold our agents to a higher standard. We hope our clients will think of us when they’re looking for a representative they can trust to always do the right thing.

What were you like growing up?
I was very introverted growing up. My grandparents described me as “backwards” a lot, in a loving way of course. I enjoyed quiet, imaginative play, and I loved writing-poems, short stories, etc. I was also a bit of a book-worm and loving walking to the library from my granny’s house in town and browsing the local antique store to observe treasures from the past.
