Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Greer.
Hi Monica, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started working in healthcare at the age of 16 and remained in the healthcare industry until I eventually left to pursue real estate full-time.
Real estate was something I had always wanted to do, but for a long time I allowed the noise around me to keep me from pursuing it. I remember hearing people talk about how difficult the licensing exam was, and that was enough to make me question whether I should even try. Thankfully, once I finally made the decision to go for it, I passed all four of my state licensing exams on the first try: the salesperson exam in Mississippi, the affiliate broker exam in Tennessee, and later the broker exams in both Mississippi and Tennessee.
One of the biggest things that pushed me to seriously pursue real estate was watching people around me experience layoffs and realizing how quickly a job that feels secure can change. At the time, I was working as a Clinical Operations Manager while also building my real estate business on the side.
I will never forget receiving a calendar invitation at 9:00 one morning for a mandatory meeting at 9:15. During that meeting, we were told that many of my colleagues were being laid off. I was one of the employees selected to remain, but that moment was a major wake-up call for me. I realized that I needed to take my real estate career more seriously and start preparing myself to eventually make the transition full-time.
My original plan was to leave healthcare and go into real estate full-time later that year, but earlier than expected, we were notified that our department would be dissolved. That accelerated everything by about 10 months.
I did briefly take another position because, at the time, I still felt like I needed the security of a traditional job. But so much was happening within that company, and every time I tried to make it work, I felt like God was showing me that He had a different path for me.
I stayed long enough to receive my 90-day evaluation, and not long afterward, I submitted my 30-day notice.
I have been in real estate ever since.
Looking back now, I can see that every part of the journey was preparing me for the next season of my life. What felt uncertain at the time was really God redirecting me toward something I had wanted to do for years. Real estate started as a passion that I was afraid to pursue, and today it has grown into a career, a business, and ultimately the opportunity to build Superior Realty & Management.
My journey has taught me not to allow fear, outside opinions, or the need for certainty to keep me from pursuing what I believe I’m called to do. Sometimes the push we need comes through uncomfortable circumstances, and in my case, those moments helped move me toward the life and business I was meant to build.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road, but I think that is part of entrepreneurship.
Real estate is a 100% commission-based business, so one thing I often say is that every day I wake up unemployed and have to go out and get hired again by buyers and sellers. For me, that does not mean instability; it means I have to remain intentional, visible, consistent, and valuable.
One of the biggest challenges has been learning how to balance being a real estate professional, business owner, leader, and entrepreneur all at the same time. As the business has grown, so have the responsibilities. I have had to learn how to create systems, lead people, make difficult decisions, adapt to changes in the market, and continue serving clients at a high level.
There have also been moments when I had to trust myself, make decisions without having every answer, and keep moving forward even when the path was not completely clear.
Those experiences have helped me grow tremendously. They have taught me to be disciplined, adaptable, resilient, and intentional about how I build both my business and my life.
As you know, we’re big fans of Superior Realty & Management. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Superior Realty & Management is a full-service real estate brokerage serving clients in Tennessee and Mississippi. We specialize in residential real estate and work with buyers, sellers, investors, and families who want knowledgeable guidance and a high level of service throughout the process.
What sets us apart is the way we approach both our clients and our agents. We are very relationship-driven. We want our clients to feel informed, supported, and confident in the decisions they are making, and we want our agents to feel like they are part of a company where they are known, valued, and supported.
Our motto is “Superior Service. Superior Results.” and that is more than just a tagline for us. It represents the standard we want attached to our name. We focus heavily on communication, professionalism, education, responsiveness, and making sure people feel taken care of from beginning to end.
I am especially proud of the culture we are building within the company. My goal has never been to become the biggest brokerage. I want Superior Realty & Management to be the right size, where we can continue to grow while still maintaining a family-oriented environment and personal connection with our agents and clients.
We are also very intentional about agent development. I believe agents perform better when they have access to training, mentorship, systems, resources, and leadership they can actually reach. I want our agents to have the tools they need to build successful businesses while still maintaining their own individual brands and personalities.
Brand-wise, I am most proud that we are creating something that feels professional but still approachable. I want people to associate Superior Realty & Management with strong representation, integrity, knowledge, and genuine care.
At the end of the day, whether someone is buying their first home, selling a property, investing, or looking for a brokerage to grow their career, I want them to know that when they work with Superior Realty & Management, they are going to be supported, educated, and treated like more than just another transaction or number.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I like best about our city is the variety. I love the walking trails and outdoor activities, the diverse restaurant scene, and the number of local attractions and things to do. I also really enjoy that we get to experience all four seasons. There is always something different to enjoy throughout the year, whether it’s spending time outdoors, trying a new restaurant, or exploring somewhere local.
As far as what I like least, there really isn’t one particular thing that stands out to me. Like any growing city, there are always things that can improve, but overall I genuinely enjoy living here and everything the area has to offer.
