Inspiring Conversations with Morgan and Ashley Gliko

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan and Ashley Gliko. Them and their team share their story with us below:

The Flying Ham is a small camper and tent rental company located just outside of Nashville in Mount Juliet, TN. We’re Morgan and Ashley, a husband and wife team and both Veterans from the Air Force. We enjoy traveling with our two young sons and exploring new things. We rent 2015 Shasta Airflyte trailers that were made in a limited edition run. To mark its 75th anniversary, Shasta RV only produced 1,941 copies of the company’s iconic 1961 Shasta Airflyte travel trailer.

We’ve always said we would buy a RV when we retire. One day we were flying back to Nashville from our annual family vacation in Montana and realized we didn’t want to come home. We had been working opposite shifts for the past three years and the schedule was wearing us out. Ashley was pregnant with our second son, and Morgan was working 50+ hours a week. We decided to take charge of our life and change it for the better. Morgan quit his job and we started focusing our life on our family and traveling.

In 2015 we were on one of our road trips and we found the perfect camper for us, a 2015 Shasta. Why wait until we retire? Let’s buy it now for our ten years anniversary! We loved our little Shasta so much, we decided to buy two more Shasta campers and started our own business, The Flying Ham.

In 2019 we decided to add glamping tents along with our 3 Shasta campers. We rent our campers and tents for families and friends wanting to enjoy a night away from it all while camping in comfort. We also rent the campers/tents as backdrops for birthday parties, weddings, and photoshoots. We’re just a husband and wife team with two young sons that love to travel. We believe in doing what you love. We believe in change. We believe in Nashville because only in Nashville can you own a business called The Flying Ham.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This is the first business we’ve ever started or owned. The biggest challenges have been learning to run and maintain a successful small business and getting the word out about The Flying Ham. Our primary focus for advertising has been on social media, however now that we’ve been in business for six years, word of mouth has been our dominate advertising platform.

We’ve been impressed with The Flying Ham: Camper & Tent Rentals, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Flying Ham rents out vintage-style camper and glamping tents. We deliver and set up all of our campers and tents to our guest’s locations. This can be a campground or at our guest’s house. We specialize in providing campers/tents for camping but also for birthday parties, guesthouses, music videos, photo sessions, weddings, and other events! Our campers have been underneath the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City to inside the Grand Ole Opry and various locations in between. We can deliver the campers anywhere our guests would like.

We are a Veteran-owned business. Both of us served in the Air Force. We will always go out of our way to ensure our guests have the best time and everything is done right. We are most proud of our service. The Flying Ham will make it right, no matter what.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Covid-19 taught us to roll with the times. Our tents became really popular for birthday parties in 2020. We shifted the focus of our glamping tents from festivals to home birthday parties and that still continues to be popular today.
