Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Theodore.
Hi Nicole, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was blessed enough to grow up in a loving home with my mom, dad and younger sister. My dad was in the military which exposed to us to quite a bit. I first became interested in the law when I was randomly assigned a job at Florida State University’s College of Law through my undergraduate work study program there.
I was looking to go into a new direction after the tragic events of 9/11 made me rethink a career in international diplomacy. After graduating from FSU, I moved to Atlanta and took a 3-year gap between undergraduate studies and law school. I graduated from Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School in 2010. My first job as an attorney was at the prestigious Cochran Firm in Atlanta, where I learned everything about preparing and arguing cases. After six years, I decided to take a chance and start my own firm doing business and entertainment law, helping entrepreneurs and entertainers realize their dreams. Last year, we were blessed enough to expand our practice into Tennessee, particularly Nashville. We felt it was the perfect place to not only serve the rapidly expanding field of startup entrepreneurs there but also to continue to serve our music and entertainment clients. I love every minute of it and can’t imagine myself doing anything else!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not! We all have our bumps in the road, don’t we? Where should I begin? Let’s see, I was halfway through law school when the financial crisis of ’08-’09 hit, and the bank that financed my student loans went under. I failed my first bar exam. When I finally did pass, companies were still slow to hire because of the recent crisis causing major stress and anxiety. Shall I go on? Regardless of the obstacles that I’ve face (and will face in the future), I’m confident that I and my firm will only continue to grow stronger.
We’ve been impressed with The Theodore Firm, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What makes The Theodore Firm stand out is our reason why we do what we do. Living out your dreams can be a full-time job (and a half). We understand firsthand that the life of an entrepreneur or an artist is not for everyone. It takes grit, determination, and a thick skin to pursue your passion. We dream-chasers know what it’s like to work ourselves 60 hours a week some weeks, just to avoid working 40 hours a week for someone else. At The Theodore Firm, our job is to help lighten the load of the dream-chaser. Let us worry about the legalities of owning and operating a business while you get back to doing what you do best – CREATING. We pride ourselves in making sure our clients’ business, assets, intellectual property, and most importantly their REPUTATION remain protected from the inevitable obstacles that we all encounter. In short, what we offer our clients is PEACE OF MIND.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
One of your most important abilities is ADAPTABILITY. You have to be able to roll with the circumstances and make the most of it. Use it to your advantage! Get creative! We started holding zoom conference calls and consultations, offered mobile notary services, allowed for telecommuting, and began hosting free webinars and chat rooms for new entrepreneurs.
