Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Draughon Megan Holt
Hi Sara Draughon, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Megan:: I began my career in fashion and merchandising, which naturally transitioned into a passion for interior design. I got my start at a small home boutique, learning and honing my skills under the guidance of talented female designers. After starting my family, I launched my own firm, Megan Holt Interiors.
Sara:: I have a background in bookkeeping and project management, which has always fueled my love for organization and spreadsheets. However, I’ve always been drawn to creative industries and found a way to merge these interests seven years ago by managing sourcing and projects for interior designers.
This is where we crossed paths. Working together, we discovered a shared passion for connecting people through design. In early 2023, we launched Design In House with a mission to empower designers in Nashville and beyond, offering a range of support services tailored to their needs.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, overall yes because we’ve always been confident and laser-focused on our mission at Design In House. This has given us a clear direction and helped us stay on track even when challenges arise. Naturally, we’ve encountered a few bumps along the way. Our biggest hurdle was opening the showroom! It definitely wasn’t in our plans to take on the overhead of a physical space in the first two months of being in business. However, the Design In House HQ has turned into one of our biggest blessings and has really helped us advance our mission in ways we couldn’t have dreamed.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Design In House primarily serves as a bridge between interior designers and wholesale furniture manufacturers, using our buying power to boost designers’ profit margins. We also provide services like project management and client invoicing to help take the administrative burden off our designers. But we strive to go beyond just being a transactional business; we make it a priority to deeply understand each designer and their projects. This personalized approach, along with our commitment to community, connection, and education, is what truly sets us apart.
Our showroom, which initially felt like our biggest challenge, has become something we’re incredibly proud of. It’s been a tremendous asset not only for us but also for our vendors and clients. The space has allowed us to host numerous meetings, happy hours, and networking events, creating a vibrant hub for collaboration.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Although we don’t work directly with the general public, there are plenty of ways to engage with us! We hold quarterly inventory sales, where you can shop designer overflow items at a fraction of the cost—be sure to follow us on Instagram for updates on these events.
We also love introducing our designers and makers to new audiences, so don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re always happy to connect you with talented and inspiring creatives!
