Inspiring Conversations with Shea Carter of Innerspace

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shea Carter

Hi Shea, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I came to Nashville for what I thought would be a quick 4 month work trip and have now been here for three years. I brought my wellness business Innerspace to Nashville and it has been a perfect fit. Innerspace offers sound healing, yoga, meditation, and breathwork classes all designed to awaken the spaciousness inside each participant. Vibrational therapies are medicine’s future; these preventative practices help reduce inflammation and calm the mind and body. It is obvious now that I was meant to heal music city with sound.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think anytime you move to a new place you are going to be met with some challenges. Culturally Tennessee is very different from growing up in Southern California but I have found that the more you experience the more accepting and understanding you become. If you allow yourself embrace something knew, be curious about it. It will have the power to change you for the better.

Coming from LA I was used to a lot of red tape. It is hard to be an entrepreneur in LA unless you’re independently wealthy. Every time you turn around there is a new fee or permit you need. Nashville felt like a breath of fresh air I was free to create and to offer my gifts with little resistance. That’s what Nashville has been for me a path of least resistance.

Each step of moving here was very easy and I felt very supported in my decision. It all started with a friend asking if I would come visit Nashville for 2 weeks. I had never been and I had just finished writing an album with Laura Bell Bundy (an artist who spent years in Nashville) so I said yes. After two weeks I came home to a still very closed, due to covid, LA and I earnestly asked the sky,, God, Universe, Source (whatever you call the Divine) “What I should do? Where I should go next?” I woke up to a text from a friend who had been living in Nashville who asked if I would want to sublease his rent-controlled artist loft for 4 months. 4 months? That’s nothing…it felt very ‘low risk’. So I took it as a sign and said yes. Three years and many memories later I am still in Nashville growing a business and writing a musical with my partner Laura Bell Bundy. Sometimes life makes our next step clear…I couldn’t have known all this place would bring me but each step I took became obvious when I needed to take it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Innerspace is a Wellness Business and Wellness Agency.

Currently, we offer Sound Healing, Yoga, Breathwork, Kundalini, and Meditation.
We are expanding the agency portion to represent all Wellness practitioners and are always excited to find new forms of healing work.

Currently, Innerspace works with a variety of mental health clients, and corporate clients, as well as offering community events. Some of our clients include Onsite Workshops, Milestone, ILC, and Womxn of Tomorrow.

Our community offerings are our monthly musical meditations at Flamingo in Wedgewood Houston where we play singing bowls, violin, and pedal steel to create a sonic experience unlike anything you have ever heard before. We have recently launched a holistic dating night to help the many singles we meet to meet each other uniquely. This event is called “A Sensory Dating Experience” where participants are matched with three people based on an application and then blindfolded as they meet for the first time and are led through a series of sense meetings. It’s an adventurous night and a fun new way to meet people.

If you’re reading this and you’re interested in leading Sound baths Innerspace is excited to offer our first Sound Healer Teaching training October 4-6th in conjunction with Shakti Power Yoga. We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck is a funny thing. If you live 1,000 lives you want to be successful in 999 of them. This requires more skills and less luck. I believe that in quieting my mind it has given me the space to see the steps in front of me and the intuition to know when and how to take them on. This is the work I aspire to teach.
