Inspiring Conversations with Shea Smith of Novus Global

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shea Smith.

Shea, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my career in network television as a story producer, helping craft and tell people’s stories in high-pressure, fast-moving environments. Over time, I realized I was just as interested in the people behind the stories as the stories themselves, specifically what helps people thrive and what keeps them stuck.

That curiosity eventually led me into coaching. For the last decade, I’ve coached leaders, entrepreneurs, creatives, and teams, helping them get out of their own way, think bigger, and create results with more clarity, momentum, and satisfaction. A lot of my work is helping people identify the limiting narratives they’re carrying and rewrite them so they can lead and perform at a much higher level.

Today, I’m an executive coach with Novus Global, where I work with high-performing leaders and teams around leadership, communication, vision, and transformation. In a lot of ways, I still help shape stories, just now it’s the story people believe about themselves and what they’re capable of creating.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Ha! No, not a smooth road at all. And honestly, looking back, I think that’s part of what made it unfold exactly the way it needed to.

Building a business centered around people is incredibly meaningful work, and the catch is… you’re working with people, including yourself. A lot of the biggest challenges along the way have actually been internal. Learning to identify my own blind spots, getting honest about where I’m getting in my own way, and continuing to grow personally has been some of the hardest and most valuable work I’ve done.

The reason I’m able to coach people through transformation now is because I’m committed to doing that work myself. I put myself on the hook to grow, think bigger, and let go of old stories that no longer serve me. That’s not comfortable, but it’s absolutely worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of Novus Global. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I’m part of an executive coaching firm called Novus Global, and we help high-performing leaders, entrepreneurs, and teams create extraordinary results without sacrificing themselves in the process. Through executive coaching, leadership development, and transformational trainings, we specialize in helping people expand their vision, strengthen communication, increase emotional intelligence, and break through the internal patterns that keep them stuck.

What sets our work apart is that we don’t just focus on strategy or performance tactics. We focus on the person behind the results. We believe sustainable growth happens when people transform the way they think, lead, and relate to themselves and others.

One of the things we’re most proud of is the depth of transformation our clients experience. People often come to us looking for better leadership or business results, and they leave with more clarity, confidence, alignment, and freedom in every area of their lives.

At the core of our brand is the belief that success does not have to come from burnout. We help people create at a high level while actually enjoying the life they’re building.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories is being at the beach on California’s Central Coast. My family would go every year, and it always felt like coming home to me.

One summer, I joined the Junior Lifeguards program, and we were given the chance to jump off the pier. At the time, it felt enormous, probably the biggest leap I had ever considered taking. I remember standing there thinking, “I don’t know if I can actually do this.” It took real courage for me as a kid.

And then I jumped.

I still remember the feeling afterward, realizing I was capable of more than I thought. Looking back now, it feels like an early glimpse into a theme that has followed me throughout my life: growth usually begins the moment we’re willing to leap beyond what feels comfortable or possible.
