Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheila Hedlund

Hi Sheila, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have always been drawn toward health and healing and spent most of my career working for physicians including dermatology. I became fascinated with the skin and acne in particular. While I loved the clinical approach, I most valued a more holistic way of helping clients and to minimize the use of medications. I love getting to the root of problems and looking at the body overall – the bigger picture. In 2006, while living in Southern California, I obtained my Aesthetics license and went to work attending every conference and class I could get to. It was an incredible season of learning. To gain a better understanding of business and client needs, I worked in all aspects of esthetics from day spas, resort spas, waxing studios, and I created a home spa before returning to a Medical Spa setting. During those 10 years, I really honed my skills in learning all about skin conditions and treatments. In 2020, I really felt called to open an Acne Studio in Redondo Beach, CA – so I went for it. The Skin Fairy is celebrating its 5 year Anniversary on Feb 12th.
Like everyone experienced, those five years brought about a lot of change. During that time my husband and I were relocated back home to Nashville. While I have continued flying back and forth to CA for work while managing that office from TN, I really wanted to get back into the treatment room. Last year an opportunity arose for me to purchase the former Prism Face Lab, and that brings us now to The Skin Fairy Nashville.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My first business opened one month before the Pandemic and we were closed off and on for over a year. Certainly, that was not anything I had planned for. But the community really rallied around supporting small businesses and helped carry me through.
Purchasing Prism Face Lab came with different challenges and different rewards. Its very different creating a business versus purchasing an existing business. It’s like stepping into someone else’s dream and trying to make sense of it all. It has been the greatest educational experience of my career and hugely rewarding.

Any big plans?
With the rebranding being completed last year, this year we get to focus solely on the love of our craft. Seeing the team grow and expand their skill set is always front and center. We have lots of amazing educational opportunities coming up this year and that involves travel – two of my favorite things.
