Inspiring Conversations with Sheri Young of Switters Iced Coffee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheri Young. She shared her story with us below:

While traveling across Southeast Asia, Kyle and Sheri Young came across incredibly flavorful iced coffee, entirely different from what they had in the States. This obsession and iced coffee love affair sparked years of research, planning, development, and experimenting. Sheri and Kyle started Switters in 2014. Originally, Switters offered two types of sweetened iced coffees packaged in glass jars and have since dropped the added ingredients and switched to aluminum cans for more sustainable packaging.

We officially opened our doors in April 2014 using our innovative flash chilled brew method and have continued to grow to ensure we are brewing delicious and unique coffees for everyone! Switters continues to brew delicious & unique coffees along with seasonal & limited-release flavors. We celebrate the versatility of coffee’s many naturally occurring flavors by creating products using only two ingredients: specialty coffee and filtered water. Our coffees can be familiar, comforting, and a unique experience all at the same time!

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Embarking on this journey of innovation and novelty has presented its fair share of challenges. Transitioning from a single-serve production model to a larger-scale operation was no small feat, especially as we aimed to capture the essence of pour-over style coffee – a favorite among coffee aficionados – and transform it into a delightful iced beverage.

Embracing the Japanese style of coffee-making, we set out to craft a high-quality product that embodies the same artisanal qualities found in your favorite local coffee shop. While the path to perfecting our ready-to-drink concoction has been filled with hurdles, I’m incredibly proud of the strides we’ve made here in Nashville. It’s been a labor of love, and seeing the result has made every challenge worthwhile.

Our journey began with a bold ambition: to bring the magic of artisanal coffee to a ready-to-drink iced coffee product without compromising on quality or flavor. What I’m most proud of, brand-wise, is the incredible product line we’ve brought to our vibrant coffee community right here in Nashville. We’ve challenged the status quo, daring to dream of a world where black coffee isn’t just a single flavor profile but could be anything! And with every sip, we’re reminded of the magic when simplicity meets innovation. Our offerings speak for themselves – each as unique and unforgettable as the last. So, to our readers, I want you to know that Switters isn’t just a coffee brand – it’s a celebration of possibility, creativity, and the endless potential of coffee.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
People are always surprised to learn we’re a tight-knit team of just four dedicated individuals! It’s myself, Adam our roaster, Rob our brewmaster, and Chelsea who handles marketing and design, truly the spirit of a small business. This close-knit dynamic fuels our creativity and drives us to push the boundaries of what’s possible in the world of coffee.

Folks are also often surprised to learn that Switters is proudly woman-owned! The coffee/beverage industry is often male-dominated, so I’m proud to have built this company and how we bring an exciting and innovative product.

I also think it’s important for folks to know Switters is a bootstrapped company that’s celebrating a decade of operation this April! We’ve weathered the storms and overcome countless challenges to bring this vision to life, all while staying true to our roots and our commitment to quality.
