Today we’d like to introduce you to Tam Nguyen.
Hi Tam, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m Tam, 37, and beauty has been my life’s work — but it started as survival. I came to the U.S. from Vietnam in my early 20s with my family, and I got my first job just three days after landing. I was the only one working at first, which meant everything to me — it meant I can help my parents and younger siblings could go to school.
I started as an apprentice at a nail salon making $300 a week, teaching myself English on the job while I learned the trade. A few years in, we saved enough to buy a small nail salon with my mom, and for years our whole family worked there together.
I never stopped growing. I got married to my husband — the most grateful, lucky part of my story — and kept building: a lash certification, then a microblading and tattoo license. Six years ago, my husband and I opened our own beauty salon here in Nolensville, offering nails, lashes, brows, PMU, and fine line tattoo. Being part of this community has meant so much to me.
Now, one of my favorite parts of the work is helping new artists chase their own dreams and succeed. My goal has always been bigger than the business — it’s freedom and peace, inside and out, and sharing that positive energy with others through my work and, eventually, more charity and giving back.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The challenge doesn’t go away — it just changes shape at every age and stage. For me, it’s always been about getting out of my comfort zone and refusing to stop learning, whether that was English, a new skill, or running a business. I remind myself often: you only fail when you give up.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Nolen Nail Spa ?
We offer nails, eyelash extensions, lash lift, brow wax, PMU, and fine line tattoo.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me isn’t just the services — it’s the people. I want every client to leave feeling confident and cared for. I also want to create a place for artists, new and experienced, to make real income and build their own dreams too, the way I had to build mine from nothing. Nolensville has given so much to me and my family, and giving back to this community is what this business is really about. At the core, it’s freedom, growth, and sharing positive energy with everyone we meet.
