Inspiring Conversations with Telece Davis of Bossy Bar Babes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Telece Davis.

Hi Telece, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I have always had an entrepreneur spirit, but I for a while wasn’t sure how I would be able to utilize my desire to be an entrepreneur.

Throughout college, I served tables to make some extra money for college expenses. While serving I was able to get a firsthand account on how fun it looked to bartend. That’s when I knew I had to be behind the bar!

Becoming a bartender did not come easy to me at first. I discovered in the restaurant industry being promoted from server to bartender was often a game of luck and politics and getting the managers to believe in you and your skills and that you can be a great fit behind the bar.

After constantly getting passed up to be trained as a bartender at the restaurants I was working at, my time working in the restaurant industry was coming to a close, as I graduated college and received my first job, or “big girl job” as we called it within a corporate environment. Even though my focus shifted to climbing up the corporate ladder I always had Bartending in my heart and knew it was a good idea to always have that skill as backup if the corporate world didn’t work out.

I decided to invest in myself and take classes at the Nashville Bartending School and officially obtained my license as a Bartender.

After becoming licensed, I knew that I wanted to use it to start my own Bartending business. I had the motivation telling myself if my previous manager didn’t believe in me to train me as a bartender, I was going to believe in myself and bartend for my own company!

Throughout my years working in a corporate environment after receiving my license, I began to Bartend occasional parties on the side with different promoters around the city. However, I still had not established my own brand just yet.

Cut to March 2020, when everything hit the fan during the pandemic, after working in the corporate field for almost a decade climbing up the ladder from entry-level to a leadership position I, unfortunately, was laid off.

Once I picked myself up again after taking that ego and career hit, I realized this was the perfect opportunity to seriously develop and execute the vision I had years ago, and officially start my own Bartending company.

Bossy Bar Babes was officially born in the Spring/Summer of 2021. For my birthday in May, I decided to gift myself my business by obtaining my LLC and making Bossy Bar Babes an official corporation.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Any business owner knows starting a business will bring its challenges. One of my biggest challenges is trying to balance being an entrepreneur with still having another full-time job.

One day I will be able to be a full-time entrepreneur, but for right now I still need income for bills, and to use to continue to build and grow my business. Therefore, I went back to work to increase income into my business.

Even though it is hard to balance time between my “daytime job” and my business, one thing I promised myself before I went back to work after taking about a year off after being laid off, was that I would never allow myself to work harder and put more into someone else’s company than I do my own. So, it is important to me to have a job that allows me to have a schedule where I can work and still have time to continue to develop Bossy Bar Babes until the day where I am ready to transition Bossy Bar Babes into being my main source of income.

As you know, we’re big fans of Bossy Bar Babes. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Bossy Bar Babes is a mobile Bartending Company that specializes in providing professional Bartending services for events including but not limited to Birthday Parties, Weddings, Corporate Events, Bachelor/Bachelorette Parties, etc.

The thing that sets Bossy Bar Babes apart is that I make my own fruit cocktail mixers that are included in my drinks in order to cut down on added chemicals, preservatives, and unnecessary added sugars to make sure your cocktail is if the highest quality.

I also am big into my spiritual faith, which tells me that alcohol if consumed irresponsibility, can lower your spiritual vibration, making you more susceptible to decreasing your mental and spiritual health. Therefore, in every cocktail created by Bossy Bar Babes, the intention of love, and positive vibrations are put into each cocktail to ensure that positive vibrations are given off when consuming a Bossy Bar Babes Cocktail.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
For anyone just starting out their entrepreneurial journey, my advice would be to not let your fear hold you back. One of my biggest apprehensions was being scared. Scared I would fail, scared I couldn’t do it by myself, scared no one would support my business, etc. You have to get over your fear! If you are scared it’s a sign you will be successful because you are wanting to be successful so much that it scares you that you could fail. Use that fear to fuel your dreams to make sure that you won’t fail! Push through that fear as many times as you need to in order to get where you need to be!
