Today we’d like to introduce you to Todd Siddons.
Hi Todd, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I was 28 years old, I had recently gotten a Master’s Degree from Georgetown University and was building a career in collegiate athletics. I was working at a university in Long Island with a good salary, good bosses, and a career path I was proud of… and yet all I could think about was how *bored* I was.
The job itself was fine- it was really the lifestyle that truly bored me. Spending 8 hours per day indoors, on my computer, for five days per week, every week, for seemingly the rest of my life- I just felt like there had to be more out there for me and I would rack my brain in bed every night trying to figure out a way to create the freedom I craved.
Fortunately, the answer was right in front of me all along. My sister had been building a network marketing business for three years and for three years, I ignored everything she would tell me about it. I didn’t understand the business, I didn’t think I’d be very good at it, and I had a lot of preconceived notions about the industry that I’m sure a lot of your readers have.
But I looked around one day and I noticed that she and all of her friends were living these big, exciting lives- quitting their jobs and traveling the world- and I was essentially in the same place I’d always been. So I finally reached back out to her and asked her to show me the ropes.
So I dove in headfirst. It was messy and uncomfortable and most of my friends thought I lost my mind- but within six months, I was able to walk away from my 9-5 and in the last eight years, I’ve helped over 12,000 people get started on either our nutrition or our collagen packs and I’m proud to say I’ll be 37 this summer and haven’t had a traditional job in my entire 30s.
It’s wild!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It’s definitely a lot smoother now than it was early on!
As I mentioned earlier, there are a lot of misconceptions about this industry and in the early days of my business, I definitely felt a lack of support from a lot of the people closest to me. I was attempting to build this business online and I was so bad at Facebook initially that I’m sure I wasn’t doing myself any favors.
But the longer I stuck with it, the more comfortable I got and people really started showing up for me. I got really good at finding the passionate, supportive people in this world and surrounding myself with them, over time, shifted everything for me.
We’ve been impressed with Isagenix International, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We’re a health and wellness company that has solutions for weight loss, weight gain, energy, and performance.
We also released a marine collagen product last year that was designed to slow the effects of aging and we’ve sold over 30 million bottles since releasing that to the public! Each of our systems has been through clinical trials, the results of which have been published in peer-reviewed medical journals around the world.
What I’m most proud of is our ability to serve our customers in a real way, without any of the hype you see from other places.
The health and wellness space is a noisy one and lots of companies, influencers, brands, etc claim to have a magic pill or secret formula to hacking the human body and the truth is- there are no magic pills or secret formulas. We provide people with science-based, thoughtfully formulated nutrition and an easy-to-follow system that makes healthy living more of a lifestyle you can live every day as opposed to a fad diet or quick fix.
I’m also proud of the fact that we have simple, easy-to-follow systems for those who want to earn an income by marketing these products that can turn an average joe like me into a full-blown entrepreneur.
Watching friends and family who have taken the leap into this business themselves and have the kind of success that allows them the ability to travel the world or be stay-at-home moms or anything in between is the most rewarding thing in the entire world.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice to someone who is brand new to this industry, or to entrepreneurship in general, is to embrace the suck. Because chances are, you’re gonna suck.
There are very few people who were simply born with the skills and abilities to thrive in a business like this- the vast majority of people all feel the same level of fear, anxiety, discomfort, and struggle when they get started. The people you’re seeing with the success are no different. They just kept going when most of their peers quit.
And that’s not to glorify “hustle and grind” culture which I think is extremely toxic. It’s just to acknowledge that when you’re trying to build something big and meaningful and long-lasting, it’s normal for it to feel uncomfortable- just don’t use that as an excuse to let yourself off the hook.
