Inspiring Conversations with Vui Hunt of Vui’s Kitchen and Vui’s Cafe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vui Hunt.

Hi Vui, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It all started with a simple idea — creating a space where we would creating amazing and healthy foods to offer to our larger community as a whole. When I opened Vui’s Cafe, I wanted it to be more than just a place to grab a smoothie or a juice. I wanted it to feel like a little bright spot in the day — where good energy, nourishing food, and kind people come together – and the cafe is quickly evolving with a full espresso bar and a growing all-day brunch and lunch menu; we’ve recently added an in-house balking which is super exciting; from thick cookies to fresh-baked rustic bread by the loaf we are thrilled to be expanding our offerings.

Vui’s Kitchen soon followed and our idea was to share the Vietnamese foods and flavor profiles I grew up with, but in a way that felt light, approachable, and full of care. Both spaces really come from the same heart — bringing people together around food that’s fresh, comforting, and made with love and whole foods.

It’s been a huge joy of my life to see our community grow around the spaces and foods — always people connecting, laughing, seeing familiar faces, being of service and simply helping someone have a great day. That’s really what it’s all about for me. Lucky me!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Honestly, it hasn’t always been smooth — and I don’t think it’s supposed to be. Behind the scenes in the restaurant there is always something going on that demands constant or immediate attention. Growing any business, particularly one that’s very public and rooted in community and open seven days a week comes with its challenges. Everything has to work for everything to work. Juggling it all can be a lot, but that’s a small price to pay for the reward of people and community and food and all the relationships that come; I see it as a gift – the work does not feel like work (most of the time..).

I’ve been fortunate to have an amazing partner — my husband — helping me and cheering me on; and nothing would be possible with our truly amazing people and teams who are on mission and working hard in the stores every day. From tornadoes to global pandemic shutdowns and the struggles of long days have taught me deep patience, persistence, and the importance of just staying on my feet and hanging in there no matter what. What you love is worth fighting for!

As you know, we’re big fans of Vui’s Kitchen and Vui’s Cafe. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Honestly, at the heart of it, what we do is really simple — through creating and offering yummy nourishing foods we get to be in the center of a growing place that connects people and great food and community – everybody wins!

Vui’s Café is bright little every day type spot with tons of plants and light where people can enjoy en early morning fresh coffee or latte with breakfast sandwich, or maybe a superfood smoothie or acai bowl; we have all day cafe brunch and lunch and everything is fresh and yummy to meet a range of cravings.

Vui’s Kitchen grew from that same heart, but with a deeper focus on the amazing foods and family kitchens I grew up with in Vietnam. I wanted to bring the comforting foods and amazing flavors of my childhood to our growing community, and in a place that is casual, comforting and super welcoming – my kitchen! Over time we’ve been thrilled to offer our take on other Asian favorites from pad thai to wings and tacos.

I think what sets us apart is that everything we do comes from caring about fresh foods that both nourish and comfort people — I think what an amazing thing we can do for others! From the food we make to the spaces we create to the way we connect with guests, we are hoping everyone feels at home and leaves feeling a little lighter, happier and nourished.

What’s next?
Yes! Lots of people behind the scenes at Vui’s Kitchen have been working long and hard to open Vui’s Kitchen Murfreesboro in early to mid 2026! It’s very exciting, and we can’t wait. We’ll share more closer to a spring opening, lots to do but it is in the works.

And at Vui’s Cafe we have added an in-house bakery! Fresh muffins, breads and treats all coming in the new year. And we also added our first ever catering van! Her name “Vannie” and she will be hitting the streets soon.

These things are amazing and fun, and more than anything I want to keep being a place where people local, loved and nourished. That’s what really drives everything we do. 🙂
