Today we’d like to introduce you to Will Moorad
Hi Will, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up in Brentwood, Tennessee, in a sports-loving family with my parents, Doug and Judy Moorad, and my two siblings, Adam and Sarah. From a young age, I was drawn to competition, and soccer quickly became my passion.
In high school I attended Ravenwood High School and later IMG Academy where I committed myself to the game, ultimately earning a spot on the Belmont University men’s soccer team as a forward. After graduating. I found myself searching for a new challenge. That’s when I discovered Crossfit. What started as a way to stay in shape quickly turned into something more. I realized I had the potential to compete at an elite level. With the same work ethic and drive that fueled my soccer career, I committed myself fully to the sport and never looked back.
I had a pro fitness career that I’m incredibly grateful for and it led me to where I am today, helping shape the future of the sport and working to ensure that athletes and the fitness community at large have the best possible opportunities to succeed.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In 2017, my athletic career took a devastating turn when went into kidney failure and was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that doctors told me would end my ability to compete. For a while, I believed my time in the sport was over. But something didn’t sit right, and after seeking further medical opinions, I learned that the diagnosis was wrong. That moment gave me a second chance and I wasn’t going to waste it. I eventually earned my way back to the World Championships in 2019 finishing 10th.
Just a few years later, life threw another challenge my way, this time, not to me, but to my wife, Cassandra. In 2021, at just 30 years old, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Watching her go through treatment, was harder than anything I had ever faced in competition. But through it all, she showed unbelievable strength, resilience, and grace.
Her fight put everything into perspective for me. Sports are important, but family, health, and the people you love come first. Thankfully, she finished treatment and rang the bell, marking the end of that battle. We came out stronger, more grateful, and more determined than ever to make the most of every opportunity life gives us.
