We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jawanza Wetzel. Check out our conversation below.
Jawanza , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I am being called now to narrow my focus and have complete tunnel vision on achieving my goals. I have not necessarily been afraid of this before but definitely hesitant. The hesitancy came from knowing that I would lose people whom I thought believed in me and supported me and my vision but actually didn’t. When I decided to go all in with BC Bullyz as expected a lot of people began to disappear when I looked to the left and to the right. The beautiful part is my real tribe started to emerge and renewed my spirit.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
BC Bullyz is an acronym that stands for
Brave
Conscious
Benevolent
Unlearners
Living
Like
YOLO
Zealously
The BC Bullyz Brand is defined as “An Expansion Of Conscious Thought Expressed Through Clothing”. We are Spiritual Beings Manifesting our Visions through Streetwear In The form of Art . Inspired by the Golden Age of Conscious Hip Hop Backpack Rap. The Bullyz Evolution seeks to align with fellow knowledge wisdom and truth seekers. The Bullyz Mission is to free the minds and raise the collective consciousness of the masses through our Designs and Unique Frequency. We are Streetwear Reimagined more than just a Brand it’s an Evolution. We inspire Thought.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Discovering Conscious Hip Hop/Backpack Rap. Emcees like KRS One, Rakim, Nas, Common, Brand Nubian and Poor Righteous Teachers just to name a few. They let me know that it was cool to be intelligent to seek knowledge and truth to read and research and not just accept everything you are told if your spirit discerns differently. It’s ok to think independently and to ask questions and speak truth to power.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
When I realized nobody was coming to save me because I have been endowed with everything that I need to save myself.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
That we are on an inner journey in this life and everyone is looking externally for the answers. Everything you are seeking is also seeking you. And the key and answers to everything you seek reside in the silence. Learn to kill the noise and listen.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
When I spend time in Silence. When I am creating and using my imagination to design for my brand or write poetry. And anytime I get to spend quality time with my family and friends.
