We’re looking forward to introducing you to Lamain –. Check out our conversation below.
Lamain, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
One downside of turning your passion into a career is that you lose the “no stakes” element. Sitting and playing or singing instinctually brings up thoughts of where this might go, rather than enjoying the moment for the moment.
A hobby I started in my early teens was fly tying. My grandpa taught me how, and it was the perfect activity for growing up in the Northern Michigan woods. I was quickly becoming infatuated with music, this art form that isn’t quite tangible but no less enthralling, so having a physically creative outlet was refreshing.
I eventually dove in and became obsessed with all things music and fly tying was put to the side.
In the past month, I’ve made the choice to find a hobby that would make me think outside of music, and blew the dust off my materials and got to work. There are familiar things, new and awkward things, and I’ve found myself very much enjoying the use of my fingers in a non-musical pastime. There are no stakes involved, no pressure to earn a living or be successful at it–just the joy of getting prepared to fish in the spring. I mean, why tie the flies if you’re not going to use them and spend more time outside?
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a producer/artist/voice teach in Nashville, TN. I find joy in helping artists tell their story in the most honest way.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
My dad has always been an entrepreneur with an undying drive to provide for his family. No matter where we were on the income spectrum, he was always knocking on doors, trying to find a way to keep the roof over our heads. His work ethic was passed down to all of us kids, and it’s something I take great pride in.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
This year, I released an EP called “Healing.” The songs tell my story of being sexually assaulted as a teenager and my journey to find healing. There have been missteps along the way, and I documented those as well. We often admire vulnerability in others but think about it shamefully toward ourselves, and I decided to release these songs as a way to tell others with my story that they are not alone.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that my closest friends matter to me. I would not be alive if they were not in my life, and I gladly go out of my way to do whatever I can for them.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When have you had to bet the company?
In Nashville, it is very common for musicians to have non-music jobs. In 2024, I decided to quit my last non-music job and bet on myself. This year has been a struggle but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. The ability to tell people that I pay my mortgage with money from my music career is enough to keep me going. Very grateful that bet paid off.
