Lauren Wells on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Lauren Wells. Check out our conversation below.

Lauren, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I’ve been getting back into more artistic hobbies that I love lately. I’ll go back and forth between clay sculpting, sketching, sewing, and even candy making. This really calms my mind and satisfies my need for a creative outlet.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a personal trainer and I work with women in the middle Tennessee area. I’ve loved seeing my clients thrive and grow in strength, endurance, and confidence during our training sessions.
I specialize in working with beginners who may have never even set foot in a gym. I love helping women build confidence, and not just the confidence that comes from a nice physique, but even more so the confidence that comes from building strength, endurance, and capability in a gym setting.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My relationship with Jesus definitely shapes how I view myself more than anything. As I’ve walked with God, especially in my adult years, I’ve learned to value myself based on God’s unconditional love for me, rather than what I can accomplish in this life. I’ve grown to value the beauty that comes from a heart changed by Christ, which brings so much light to a world that desperately needs it.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Seasons of suffering have produced more positive change in my life than times of comfort and ease. I’ve struggled with autoimmune illnesses and have also been a type 1 diabetic since 2011. Through these hardships, I’ve become far more adaptable and resilient when faced with challenges. I would not be as empathetic, compassionate, resourceful, and enduring if my life had been easy so far.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely! I value transparency and don’t feel the need to put on a mask and perform for the world. Life is more fun when you learn to simply be yourself rather than keep up with some exhausting act.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
Yes, whether it was a certification, degree, financial goal, etc, it never truly satisfied me. These temporary rewards and achievements are nice, but the dissatisfaction after receiving or accomplishing them is just a reminder that they were never meant to satisfy me in the first place. My peace, fulfillment, and true joy comes from the relationship I have with Jesus. I don’t have to work for it and there’s nothing I can do to earn God’s love. I rest in that promise and find true contentment with Christ.
