We recently had the chance to connect with Amanda Meadows and have shared our conversation below.
Amanda, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
I was asked to do videos for Dollar Generals Cascade Meeting in Nashville. I was very proud & full of laughter when I saw how the video resonated with the audience & the amazing feedback that come from it. Makes all this worth it!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I create a series of characters inspired by real people and experiences I’ve witnessed throughout my life, often drawing from my own background of being raised in a Trailer Park. What makes my work unique is that I’ve found a way to turn those stories into comedy skits that resonate with thousands of people who’ve lived through similar situations or simply connect with the humor.
I’m not a stand-up comedian..I’m an Actress. My passion is seeing how far acting can take me, whether through the characters I play online or in bigger projects down the road. Right now, I’m working on expanding into longer-form storytelling on YouTube, creating movie-style content, while also staying true to my roots and making people laugh. At the end of the day, I just want to keep building, keep entertaining, and yes..keep my bills paid while chasing this dream.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
Dreams are too big for someone like me.
Sometimes kids think certain lives or careers are “for other people.” Now I see my background is part of my strength.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes. There was a time I did give up temporarily..I was exhausted and thought I couldn’t possibly take my comedy anywhere. I deleted all my social media accounts..But then my father’s words came back to me: “If you get knocked down 7 times, get up 8.” That stuck with me, and it’s the reason I came back & I’m still here doing what I love.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
When I’m dressed as my characters, I’m definitely playing a role, but a lot of my real personality shines through in that space. When I show up as Amanda, though, I’m exactly how I’d be if we met in person. I tend to be more reserved and shy at first, but once I feel comfortable, I open up and let that playful, outgoing side show.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I think the biggest misunderstanding about my legacy might be that people assume I’m making fun of the trailer park lifestyle. But the truth is, everything I do comes from my own life, my own background, and my own circumstances. I want people to know that southern poor communities are real, that we may do things differently, but that doesn’t mean it’s wrong. We’re not a punchline! we’re hardworking, resourceful, and resilient. And we’re certainly not uneducated. My comedy comes from a place of love and lived experience.
