We recently had the chance to connect with Bill DiLuigi and have shared our conversation below.
Bill , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
Quiet time with God to feed my spirit ; gym for the body.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a longtime member of the Nashville songwriting community. I primarily write with country artists and producers, however I am heavily involved with film and television music as well . This year I cut my own Americana record and I’m releasing songs from that one at a time. It feeds my soul to write songs and say things exactly how I wanna say them because I’m the one that’s going to release them. The song out now is called Refugees of Rock ‘N’ Roll . It features a guest verse by Eliot Sloan of Blessid Union of Souls . They had the huge hits “I Believe” and ‘”Hey Leonardo (She Likes Me for Me)”.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
When I was 8 I went to a pool party at my cousin’s house , He was about 15 and played guitar and sang folk songs . I was so engrossed , I recall hearing the music he played in my head the whole way home in our station wagon …God’s way of whispering ?
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
At about the five year mark in Nashville. I had been working extremely hard. I had a day job and I was writing and playing every other available time. I just wasn’t seeming to get any traction. I was feeling kind of down at the end of the day and soon as I stepped on my porch, I got a phone call from NSAI. I won the big NSAI/CMT songwriter contest with a song I had written alone sometimes it just takes any little thing to keep me going.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That you have to be at the top of the chart to be legitimate. That fame and money is everything, because it certainly is not. There is a life after this one according to what I believe and that’s where my focus is a lot. I wanna leave this world a better place and let people know how to do that.
The industry is full of people telling you to follow trends etc to be successful l encourage people to learn the rules, then break them. Be yourself …say something like no one else has ever said it.!
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If immortality were real, what would you build?
I think it IS real . The way I see it. None of us ever die. We just make a choice whether we’re going to be in Heaven or Hell . I follow the teaching of Jesus best I can . The Bible teaches we are for sure sinners and that He died to take the punishment for our sin. We must turn from our own selfish ways and surrender ourselves to Him . believing upon his work and confessing it with our lips grants us entrance to Heaven . The Bible also teaches there is no other path to heaven..
So to answer the question initially, I try to build strong, friendships and relationships with people based on love. I try to give of my finances and of myself.
