We recently had the chance to connect with Dominique Smith-White and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dominique, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my workday at The Flawless Faces Makeup Collective start with intention and calm focus. I begin by unlocking the studio, turning on the lights, and taking a few quiet minutes to pray over the space. I speak peace, protection, and prosperity over my clients, artists, and business, then take a moment to center myself and visualize a successful, fulfilling day. After that, I move into setup mode. I power on the lighting at each station, start the music, and turn on our wax pots and other spa tools or devices in our treatment area. I wipe down my station, restock disposables, and make sure the studio feels clean, welcoming, and aligned with my brand’s energy. Once the space is ready, I shift into digital housekeeping by checking and responding to client messages, emails, and DMs. I prioritize anything tied to bookings, payments, or collaborations, and confirm our appointments for the day. In my final stretch, I review my schedule, make notes about each client’s preferences or special requests, and update any systems or notes that need attention. Before my first appointment, I take a quick moment for myself. I make myself a cup of coffee or grab an energy drink, queue up my playlist, and get in the creative mindset to serve my clients with the excellence and ease that makes us FLAWLESS.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Dominique Smith-White, and I’m a professional makeup artist and licensed aesthetician based in Clarksville, Tennessee. I’m the talent behind Flawless Faces by Dominique LLC, a makeup artistry brand that has been serving the Clarksville area for the past nine years and has grown into one of the most sought-after names in local beauty. Building on that success, I launched The Flawless Faces Makeup Collective, a full-service beauty studio/day spa and creative space designed for both clients and fellow artists.
What makes my brand unique is the balance between artistry and environment. I’ve created a space that feels elevated yet welcoming—a place where clients can unwind, feel seen, and leave feeling confident, and where beauty professionals can grow their own businesses within a supportive, high-end setting.
My work has always been about more than just makeup; it’s about empowerment, confidence, and connection. Right now, I’m focused on expanding our services, mentoring other artists, and continuing to set a higher standard for both client experience and professional collaboration in our industry. At the heart of everything I do is a simple belief: when you feel confident in your skin, you move through the world differently—and that’s the kind of beauty I want to create every day.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I think what breaks the bonds between people most often is a lack of understanding and communication. When people stop listening—really listening—to one another, that’s when assumptions, pride, and distance start to take over. Whether it’s in business, friendship, or family, disconnect usually comes from feeling unseen or unheard. In the beauty industry, I see it all the time: people crave connection, but it takes intentional effort to maintain it.
What restores those bonds is empathy and accountability. It’s being willing to slow down, own your part, and approach others with a genuine heart instead of ego. Sometimes restoration doesn’t mean everything goes back to how it was—it just means you find peace, clarity, and respect again. For me, prayer and grace play a big role in that process. When you lead with compassion and keep your heart open, even broken bonds can become opportunities for deeper understanding and growth.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes—absolutely. There have been several moments where walking away felt easier than pushing through. The beauty industry can be demanding, especially when you’re building something from the ground up and wearing every hat—artist, business owner, mentor, and creative. There was a season where I felt completely drained, questioning if all the long hours, sacrifices, and setbacks were even worth it.
But every time I got to that point, something reminded me why I started. Sometimes it was a client’s reaction after seeing themselves in the mirror, or an artist telling me how my space helped them grow in their own career. Those moments made it clear that my purpose was bigger than my exhaustion. I learned that rest doesn’t mean quitting—it means recalibrating. Once I started giving myself permission to pause instead of give up, everything shifted. I came back stronger, more focused, and more aligned with the vision God placed in me from the beginning.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would probably say that what matters most to me is purpose, peace, people, and my family. I care deeply about living in alignment with what I’m called to do—not just chasing success, but building something meaningful that impacts others. They’d tell you I’m passionate about creating spaces where people feel seen, valued, and inspired to grow.
They also know that peace is non-negotiable for me. I’ve learned to protect my energy and only pour into things that feel genuine and purposeful. And my family is at the center of everything I do—they’re my grounding force and my biggest motivation. Whether it’s in my personal life or my business, I want everything I touch to come from a place of integrity and intention. At the end of the day, it’s always about the people I love and the community I serve. Relationships mean everything to me, and I want to see everyone around me win.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m in my studio early in the morning before the day starts—when everything is quiet, the lights are soft, and I can just breathe and pray over the space. There’s something about that stillness that reminds me how far I’ve come and how much purpose there is in what I do.
I also find peace when I’m with my family, just being present and not worrying about what’s next. Those simple, grounded moments—whether I’m laughing with my kids or sitting in silence with a cup of coffee—recharge me in ways that success alone never could. Peace for me isn’t about perfection or having everything figured out; it’s about being centered, grateful, and aligned with what truly matters.
