We recently had the chance to connect with Jarrod Barry and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jarrod, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Locking myself away in the studio and working on a project like my new album ‘Working Overtime’ or performing songs I wrote on stage and just being enveloped in the moment, the music, the magic. It feels like the weight of the world is lifted in that moment, every time.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jarrod Barry, I’m an independent country music artist from Indiana, Pennsylvania and my entire life is music. I just released my 3rd studio album titled ‘Working Overtime’. It features 20 tracks I gave my whole heart too. I feel like it shows a side of me better explained through the music. The work horse that just doesn’t know when enough is enough. The continuous grind of never giving up. Walking through the valley of the shadow of death with my head held high knowing The Lord is with me. Working Overtime.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
Definitely, my Mom and Dad. They work extremely hard and always have. They have such admirable work ethics and the way they never give up is something I try to emulate.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell him that he’s awesome for never giving up and sticking it out through all the bullying and hate he endured.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
100%. I’m myself at all times. I feel like authenticity and being truly vulnerable is almost a super power for an artist. That’s when you can really tap in with your audience on a whole other level. Be true to yourself. You deserve that.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I believe in my soul I’m doing what Jesus wrote out for me. I really feel such an incredibly full heart in every moment of my journey. Even this interview and getting to express who I am and what I love. I’ve been doing and going at my music career since I was in 3rd grade. 20 years later we’re still here by the grace of God giving it my all. I will be doing this until the day he decides to call me home. That’s how much I believe I was born to do this.
