Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Katie Fee

We recently had the chance to connect with Katie Fee and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Katie, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Even though it is only August, I have been really looking forward to Fall and Spooky Season, so I’ve enjoyed seeing stores start to put out all of the decorations and pumpkin everything. Fall is my favorite season and Halloween my favorite holiday, so anything related to that is bringing me joy.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a country singer-songwriter originally from Sioux Falls, SD, but I’m now based in Nashville, Tennessee. I love writing songs that tell stories as well as evoke emotion. I enjoy getting to write songs for other artists as well as for my own artist career. Currently, I am working on my next album, which I hope to release near the end of next year.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents are both hard workers and have taught me the value of hard work. They taught me that having a good work ethic is important and I think that’s why I work as hard as I do on my career.

When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
I’m not sure about when I was scared as a child, but I always turned to music whenever I was sad. Finding songs that felt like the artists knew what I was going through helped me let out the emotions and not feel alone in them.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I think that being a country music artist in and of itself can be considered a project, and it’s definitely something I’m committed to eventually making a full-time career no matter how long it takes to do so.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I feel like typically nobody tells someone to dedicate their life to pursuing a career that has no guarantee of success, so I’m definitely doing what I was born to do.
