We recently had the chance to connect with Kim KiwiFoosteps and have shared our conversation below.
Kim, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
One of the biggest misconceptions about travel blogging is that it’s all about glamorous getaways and instagram-worthy moments. While there is beautiful moments and experiences, the heart of what I do goes much deeper. My blog is not just about ticking off destinations off a list, it’s about trying to empower and inspire others to get out and about and travel especially as solo travellers.
Behind every post is a lot of work, researching and writing, planning and a constant effort to make my content valuable to other people. I am passionate about story telling and sharing my own lived experiences (even the ‘not so good’ experiences).
Travel blogging for me is about a connection – to places, culture and people and I think that this idea of ‘travel influencer’ is often mislead on social media.
This is an amazing passion of mine and I hope to help other people feel at home in the world – even when they are thousand of miles away from their own home!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m the creator of Kiwi Footsteps!
A travel blogger inspired by my journey as a New Zealander exploring the world one adventure at a time.
Originally from Aotearoa (New Zealand), I’m now based in London and have spent the past few years travelling across different continents, discovering cultures, and chasing experiences. My blog was born from a desire to share those adventures and, hopefully, inspire others to step outside their comfort zone.
My passion for travel deepened after losing my mum, a strong woman who loved to explore. Every journey I take now carries her spirit with me.
Outside of travel, I work as a physiotherapist, a career that’s taught me the value of movement, wellness, and living life fully. Whether I’m hiking, biking, or simply wandering new streets, I believe in embracing the world with curiosity and gratitude.
With Kiwi Footsteps, I want to encourage others especially those thinking of travelling solo to believe that meaningful travel is possible, no matter your background or experience. One step at a time.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
One moment that really shaped how I see the world was after losing my mum. She had such a passion for travel and adventure and her passing made me realise just how short and unpredictable life really is. Since then, I’ve made it my mission to live fully, explore the world, and carry her adventurous spirit with me wherever I go.
Life is way too short to wait and ponder on life, you never know what’s going to happen tomorrow. That mindset drives me to say yes to opportunities, chase experiences, and make the most of every single day.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
To not be afraid to take risks and embrace uncertainty. Life is unpredictable! Remember that every experience even the hard ones, shape the person you are becoming.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I deeply admire my partner for his strong values and genuine respect for others. There’s something truly special about the kindness he shows, not just to people in his life, but even to complete strangers. What draws me to him is his unstoppable drive rooted in strong principles, his commitment for culture and religion, and his self-motivation. His character inspires me every day because he consistently goes above and beyond with sincerity and integrity, and that’s far more powerful than any position of authority.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace during those special travel moments shared with family. Whether it’s quietly watching a sunset together or exploring a new place together. It’s in those times of connection, laughter, and shared discovery that I truly feel calm and grounded. These experiences remind me of what really matters and bring a deep sense of peace to my heart.
