We recently had the chance to connect with Mac Huffington and have shared our conversation below.
Mac, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: When have you felt most loved—and did you believe you deserved it?
when I got sick, the community showed me much love. I didn’t know I was so loved and thought about. I love the community, so this was amazing.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
-Mac is a staple in the LGBT Community being apart over the years of the Nashville Pride Board over 20 years, the First Black Vice President of Nashville Pride and the First Black President of Nashville Pride. for 2 years in a row. The First Chair of Nashville Pride Diversity & Inclusion Committee. One of Nashville Pride Grand Marshal in the 2019 Parade. The Original & Current Coordinator of Nashville Pride Drag Stage. The Original & Current Coordinator of the Nashville Pride Pageant & Turnabout Event.
Nashville Black Pride Board member for over 20 years along with the Coordinator of Sisters United Now called BASU (part of Nashville Black Pride). Current MashUp Nashville Board Member, Former Launch Pad Board member, Former Nashville Big Brother Big Sister LGBTQ Advisory Council member, Grace & Gratitude Board member (organization that helps domestic violence victims). Bianca Paige Board members. Former Nashville LGBT Chamber Board Member receiving the President’s Award (the highest award given by the Chamber) and Chamber Program Committee Member, Mac was given the first Mac Huffington Trailblazer Award 2025.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?

when my mother died
My sister was very supported and helped me be strong

yes
I love people and helping people. That is what I try to do in the community
I am a happy go luck type person all the time
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
yes! I never expected any of the praise or awards I have received. I help and do because I want to and like it.
I always want to do my best and feel bad if someone thinks I haven’t
