We recently had the chance to connect with Quantez Baugus and have shared our conversation below.
Quantez, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
My typical day involves waking up and outlining my schedule for the day. While I dedicate a significant amount of time to work, my days off are structured around activities such as cooking, socializing, artistic endeavors, and maintaining a positive mindset.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
The brand, ART NEVER SLEEPS, reflects the dynamic and evolving nature of artistic expression. Recognizing that innovation and creative endeavors persist even during periods of rest, the brand embraces a forward-thinking approach. This philosophy informs the design, photography, and videography processes, encouraging unconventional perspectives. The primary objective is to produce distinctive, high-quality work that evokes positive emotional responses. The aim is to cultivate a brand that extends beyond the realm of art, fostering a deeper connection with its audience. This continuous evolution of both the artist and the art itself embodies the essence of ART NEVER SLEEPS. This is what my brand is about and will extend as I push towards film.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was just a kid, trying to figure things out, ya know? My aunt raised me, and I was just trying to live. I started drawing back then. I drew pictures all through middle school. Then, in college, I got into photography and graphic design. I was just taking classes to get by. It didn’t click until later what I was meant to do.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I used to put things off like crazy. I was really trying to figure out what I needed to do to succeed. Sometimes I thought about quitting. Like, I didn’t know what I was doing. I had to keep myself in check because of all the negative thoughts. But once I really sat down and figured things out, it all started to click. I knew this was going to be big, I just needed a little push and to understand things. And my friends were super supportive, which helped a ton.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I’d say Tyler Perry, for sure. His story about overcoming everything as a kid and building a billion-dollar empire is amazing. I remember him saying he’s building his own table, so he doesn’t have to sit at anyone else’s. That whole idea of creating your own thing and running your own brand really resonated with me. And then, once you’ve built your table, you help others build theirs too. It’s super inspiring and motivates me a lot.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
It takes time to get anywhere, you know? Some people want it all right now. I love being an artist and I know it takes a while. I’m happy and thankful for everything, no matter what happens.
