We’re looking forward to introducing you to Thom Chapman. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Thom, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
Probably the hidden architecture behind the songs — the quiet world-building that ties everything together. It’s built from recurring symbols and small details that connect one piece to the next. The Cheshire Cat still grins somewhere in the background, keeping the world just strange enough. Most people don’t see it, but maybe they feel it — and that’s enough.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Thom Chapman — a songwriter, producer, and visual artist building a connected world through music. My work blends psych-pop and dreamlike art-rock with a handmade visual universe full of symbols and recurring motifs. I record, mix, and design everything in-house, including the music videos, which extend each song into its own cinematic world. My logo — the Cheshire Cat — serves as a symbol of curiosity, mischief, and the beauty of not fully understanding.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
Beyond my parents, the greatest teachers have been the artists I’ve worked alongside — whether through formal apprenticeships or long nights in the studio. Each left a fingerprint on how I see art and process: the patience to refine, the curiosity to experiment, and the nerve to keep building when no one’s watching.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell him to stop doubting the reach of his own hands. You can learn anything, build anything, create entire worlds from scratch. You don’t need permission — just persistence, curiosity, and the will to keep shaping what you dream. Don’t wait for someone else to open the door — build it yourself.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
Probably that anything is possible — genuinely. I think most limitations are learned ones, built from the expectations we inherit rather than the truth of what we’re capable of. So much of what we’re told to strive for is shaped by pressure or convention, not curiosity. You can do almost anything if you’re willing to unlearn a few things first.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace in that brief moment right after I finish creating something — when the idea finally takes shape and exists outside of me. It’s a fleeting calm, like standing in the eye of a storm. That feeling never lasts long, though. The artist’s reward is questioning it, wondering if it’s any good — but that quiet moment before the doubt creeps in is everything.
