Life & Work with Abby K

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abby K.

Abby K

Hi Abby, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
When I was 12 years old, I asked my dad to take me to a concert. He chose KISS. My life was completely changed in 2014 when I watched Gene Simmons roar on that stage.

I became a musician the very next day. I became an original hard rock artist at the age of 16 when I released my debut single and music video, “It Should Have Been Me.” I am now 20 years old; I have been living in Music City for just over two years, I have 14 original rock songs out, I’ve played in 32 states, I own a women empowerment clothing brand, and host biannual charity concerts for females in rock music!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The biggest struggle for me has always been the obvious – I am young, and I am a girl. I’ve had times where venue staff tell me I can’t be backstage at my shows because they thought I was just the “girlfriend” of the band. I was the artist performing that night.

Starting a professional career at 16 years old was a big undertaking. I had no idea how much I would struggle because no one would take me seriously. “Oh, you’re just a kid.” But I was a kid with a mission and I was determined to make it happen.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My name is Abby K and I am an original hard rock artist. Over the past 4 years, I have released 14 rock songs and 8 music videos. I have toured the country with artists like Nita Strauss, The Iron Maiden, Dorothy, Hinder, and more. I have taken the stage in 32 US states.

Although the music is who I am, what I do, and what I love most, I would have to say I am most proud of the charity concerts I organize. The rock & roll industry is a tough place to be as a woman. I have begun organizing “Girls Rock Nashville” charity concerts. It gives 6-8 women a chance to perform their original rock music with an all-female house band, and all the proceeds are donated to a charity.

What matters most to you? Why?
All I want to do is make a difference in someone’s life. One person, or a million people. I am here to use my voice and my platform.
