Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrian Kniffley.
Hi Adrian, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up with both parents in a stable household and had older siblings which got me into liking hip-hop at an early age. Though I enjoyed hip-hop that was mainstream always wondered how I could put a positive twist on it. I feel like my community deserved a positive outlook in a way that they can still enjoy as hip-hop music. By me not chasing the mainstream route. I was never pressured by worldly topics and was able to include substance in my music from the beginning. I started making music professionally when I was 16 years old now I’m 34 and I feel like I have even more freedom than I had then.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Making music and creating independently has definitely not been a smooth road. Some of the toughest struggles include working with others in a group where others in the group might not always be as serious and dedicated as you. You have to figure out when your dedication is not being matched. whether to address it or just accept your role as a leader. I never viewed myself as a leader though. I always viewed myself as someone who connected with and worked with other leaders even if they didn’t view themselves as such. It’s also difficult getting an audience built up. You have to keep creating even when it seems many don’t pay attention.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
So I wear mini hats in the creative field I started off composing instrumentals in 2003 when I was in fifth grade from then on, I began to write to those instrumentals and when writing I made sure that I was being relevant to my life, so most of this music was about school life and riding bikes and playing with friends lol. I am most proud of the lifetime relationships with people who value the creative process as much as I do. Most recently a new project I am finishing up with Methodical Wun who is a producer/artist that has ignited significant growth in my craft. What sets me apart from others is my motivating and positive content. I’m not afraid to be myself on songs and I don’t have to over-exaggerate certain aspects to appeal to others. .
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love Nashville. Growing up in Louisville. I’m familiar with Nashville with it being so close. I have an older sister who sings and she’s done a showcase or two in Nashville. My best man and I both had our bachelor parties in Nashville so I love the culture and the music in Nashville is a great city. On the hip hop scene I’m familiar with Shon Gotti, Tha City Paper, Starlito and Young Buck.
