Life & Work with Allison Wilson of Franklin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Wilson.

Hi Allison, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I moved from California 4 years ago after practicing General Dentistry for 18 years at my Dad’s dental office. When I moved to TN I switched to dental sleep medicine.

I do two things at my office:

1. Use a laser to tighten the collagen in the soft palate to help with snoring.

2. Oral appliance therapy to help with the position of the tongue both for snoring and treating sleep apnea.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a smooth road. The hardest obstacle has been both advertising while educating people about snoring, sleep apnea and the use of laser.

It is easier to advertise when people know what they want but we have to teach and then explain treatment choices.

Snoring is a nuisance, but sleep apnea is a medical condition. There are 30-40 million people under diagnosed. Also those who know but stopped using cPAP therapy and don’t know oral appliances are also a solution. 8 million new CPAPs are delivered annually another 2.5 million in Europe and 50% stop using PAP after 3 months. There is a huge need to treat patients.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Technology sets The Snore Store apart. We use laser technology as a non invasive procedure to tighten the soft palate and state of the art new dental appliances that have sleep metrics/data embedded into the appliance to track sleep.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
How important for health sleep is. If you are tired all the time or snoring it can be a sign of medical issues. Even for healthy people can have apnea. Humans are the only mammals that have collapse of the airway so everyone even fit healthy people can be at risk for apnea.
