Life & Work with Amava

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amava.

Hi Amava, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I grew up in Central Oregon and spent the majority of my childhood as a folk artist. I grew up in a town that was very folk-heavy and was a part of an amazing music program called the Americana Project that really fostered my love for music and artistry. In my teen years, I slowly began discovering the internet and the pockets of Tumblr where pop and electronic music were thriving.

I began to grow out of my folk style and take on the electronic pop persona Amava. I moved to Nashville when I was 18 and attended Belmont University where I got a degree in Music Business. I signed my publishing deal and have continued as Amava ever since.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve had a lot of challenges over the years. Both personal and career-wise.

I lost my Mom when I was 18 and that really just added years and years to my emotional maturity and I think I then had to step into adulthood a lot quicker than most. Changing genres also added some bumps to my career path as I was having to get to know a whole new industry and world that I was not familiar with outside of being a fan. I think I grew into it very quickly though.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an artist/singer/songwriter who goes by Amava. I am a pop artist based out of Nashville, TN. With my background in indie-folk music, my soundscape relies on folk-style, metaphor-heavy writing through the lens of modern-day pop and hyper-pop song themes and production.

I also have a HEAVY interest in fashion and hope to use my artistry to also branch out into the fashion industry one day. I love curating my image to create a really special brand and I use fashion as the vessel to do so. I want all the creative parts of me (music, clothing, makeup, design) to align to create the perfect version of Amava.
