Life & Work with Andrea, Jesse and Nina Dozzi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea, Jesse and Nina Dozzi. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Dozzi is made up of three sisters, Andrea, Jesse and Nina Dozzi. The three sisters moved to Nashville, TN, from Brisbane, Australia, where they grew up with full-time musicians as parents (Sharon and Mark Dozzi). After reaching #1 on the Australian Country Music Charts, receiving 2 ‘People’s Choice Awards’ and playing festivals like CMC Rocks (alongside Kacey Musgraves, Lady A & Chris Young), the girls decided to pack their bags and fly across the world to purse their dream in the USA. They left behind their parents, three other siblings and two nephews. Dozzi quickly realized that they found their place in the world. They got to work, songwriting and playing shows after touching down, not even losing all their belonging in a house fire seven months after moving to Nashville could stop these sisters from following their dreams. Dozzi continued to live in Nashville, where they worked very hard. Continuously songwriting and building their name and profile in Nashville and all over the USA. They have since released an EP called ‘Worth The Wait’, which received rave reviews in Rolling Stone and Billboard magazine, as well as CMT premiering the video from their title track ‘Worth The Wait.’

Since moving in 2016, Andrea, Jesse and Nina have only been able to visit their family twice. They now have three new nephews and a niece. In 2020, Dozzi spent all their savings on living as they had no paid work. But the girls kept writing, and as soon as Nashville opened back up, they got to work and saved so they could release new music for all their new fans. Their new music will be coming out in August 2021, which they are super excited for everyone to hear.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Our first obstacle was getting a Visa to be able to come to Nashville. We worked hard in Australia to make sure we had enough press and a big enough name to get a Visa, but nothing is guaranteed. We actually booked our tickets to the States and had our farewell show before our Visa approval notice came through. Seven months after moving to Nashville, we lost everything in a house fire. Our neighbor threw water on a grease fire of which spread into our roof. We did get our musical instruments out of the house. However, we lost our clothes and other belongings. What didn’t get taken by flames, was ruined by the water from the Fire Fighters or the asbestos in the ceiling.

Since moving, we have gone through heartbreak and heartache. We have missed funerals and missed memories we could have made with our immediate family who still lives in Brisbane. But everything has been worth it. Moving to Nashville was the best thing we have ever done in our lives!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
Dozzi is a country band made up of three sisters. Unlike most other girl bands, there is no lead singer. Each sister sings a verse in each song. Also, each sister plays an instrument. Andrea plays Mandolin, Jesse plays Guitar and Nina plays keys. Dozzi is known for their harmonies and fun live shows. Family harmonies are hard to beat and Dozzi loves packing their songs full of them. When you see Dozzi live, there is a lot of energy on stage and, therefore in the crowd. Everyone is jumping and dancing around and having genuine fun!

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
We all have our own favorite memories, however, we do like talking about how we use to go and watch our parents play live. They would bring mattresses for us kids to sleep on when we go tired. We use to help them write songs and learn cover songs. They would include us in all the parts of their music careers. We were very lucky to have musicians as parents. We would not be as good and focused as we are without watching them work hard doing what we are doing or without the amazing support, we get from them.
