Life & Work with Bailee Barnett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bailee Barnett. 

Hi Bailee, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hello, my name is Bailee Barnett and I am a singer-songwriter from Northern California. I moved to Nashville in 2020 after graduating college with a history education major. Music has always been a passion of mine. I started playing piano at the age of 6 and started singing around that time as well! I do music now full-time and have a job singing downtown on Broadway. I have had so much improvement in my singing as well as my songwriting. I started writing songs at age 16 and fell in love with writing. I have written well over 30 songs now and I have a new single coming out January 21st I am super excited about. This song is written about my hometown, McKinleyville. Our catchphrase is “On the Hill in McKinleyville” so of course, the song is called Hilltop Town. I hope to one day be on country radio and stay humble along the way and I am working every day to reach that goal. 

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think as an artist trying to make it in the music industry, every day has its struggle. There are days I wake up and think “well maybe I should just go get a 9-5 job, that will be easier”. The older I get I have realized life is not so easy sometimes, especially chasing a dreamlike music. With the struggle though, there is so much reward. There is nothing better than the feeling of being on that stage and people listening to what you have to say in your lyrics. Hard work pays off and I will continue to push forward regardless of the struggles. 

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I work full time in Music and right now I have been singing downtown on Broadway for about 8 months now. I also work on my own music as well. I put out a single last February and I am releasing another one January 21st! I think the main thing that sets me apart from others is my natural red hair. Haha 

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Hmm, something that people don’t know about me is that I also have a major passion for teaching and history. I am a total nerd when it comes to that kind of stuff.
