Life & Work with Brandon Lee of Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Lee

Hi Brandon, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Well before we get started I would like to give thanks to God, my family, and my friends. Without them, I would not be where I am today. I’d also like to thank Nashville Voyager for this opportunity to be heard and featured. As for my story, it basically started with a random idea one day. After working and networking in the private contracting and security industry for quite sometime, I noticed some companies and entities in the industry only handed out jobs to certain contractors, regardless of background, that owners or supervisors were close knit with. This made it very difficult to advance in your career field and use your skillsets that you’ve worked hard to earn and build. The lack of equality or fairness for others just didn’t sit well with me. Then I started noticing a patterns of individuals with a huge gap of updated training or lack of good training. With my background and experience, training is the life blood of an individual, a team, and any organization. There were also less than professional working at client sites or work sites in less than professional attire or lack of uniform standards. This created an immensely negative image on companies and how they conduct themselves as professionals and as private security contractors. I found myself wondering “how can I change this? How can I change the standards and do better?” Then I found myself wondering “What is the truly needed for the industry and where can I fit in with the ever growing demand of private contract security?” This lead me down a rabbit hole of research of finding exactly where those demands were needed the most. So one day I decided to turn my idea into a reality. And I did just that. It all started with a logo which I sat on for months trying to come up with a name that not only stands out but also fits who I am as a person and where I wanted to see my company go in the future. After months of thinking it finally hit me, Corvus Strategic Solutions Group, LLC also known as Corvus Protection Group. And just like that, CSSG/CPG was born. And let me just say it was no easy task! I had no idea where to start or what path to take. At the current time I was the Director or Safety and Security for a phenomenal church in East Nashville. I was in charge of 8 Protection Agents at the time that were tasked with not only protecting the congregation at events and worship services, but also the private academy that was held at its location Monday-Friday.

As I worked to protect the people and children of this church and academy, I spent my off time working on building not only myself and my skillset but also my company and my brand. Standard operating procedures, training and curriculums, ethics, code of conduct, uniform standards, etc. Diligently researching the TN TCA codes and laws in regards to uniforms, state laws governing private security, etc. I wanted all of my bases covered professionally, legally, and morally. Now I can’t take all of the credit and heres why. During this time of R&D, I came to meet two people that would ultimately become two very great friends to share my vision of the company and eventually became my business partners. Nothing will test friendships like business partnership. But I can wholeheartedly say that I would not be where I am today if all 3 of us were not meant to be the friends and business partners we are today and I am forever grateful for them. So I have a lot of thanks to give to not only every Agent under my care, but also my Chief of Operations, Tyler Butler and my Chief of Human Resources, Jasmine Phillips.

As time went by and the business had it’s ups and downs, we have come to grow and change on a continuous basis to include hiring additional Protection Agents and off-duty Law Enforcement Officers. We also began to obtain more training and instructor certifications to further expand our knowledge and skills. Moving forward we have been tasked with not only protecting other wonderful businesses in the greater Nashville area but also its citizens and children. From public and private schools, places of worship, event venues, marathons, and many other entities. I am proud to say that we have slowly started to change the image of the industry as well as the standards that come with this industry, standards which should always be upheld. We were also very fortunate enough to partner with Delta Security Solutions known as DSS, out of Dallas, Texas. This partnership extended into even more private contracting with the public and various law enforcement agencies across Texas. This allowed us to expand outside of Tennessee and continue to further our services on much larger scaled events in the greater Dallas Fort Worth area. Raymond A. and Lucio C. are the owners of DSS and I would like to extend my thanks and gratitude to them as well for the opportunities they have extended to Corvus. I’m hoping to expand to at least 4-5 more states this year. It will all be within God’s plan and timing as well as consistent and persistent hard work.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wish I could say yes, but that would not be accurate. Much like paths in life, they’re never a smooth and easy road. There will always be bumps and blockades along the way. It’s just never a smooth road like we all wish it could be. And if anything is easily obtainable, it’s most likely not worth having. I like to jokingly say that life can sometimes be like the interstates. Sometimes dangerous to navigate, constant traffic jams, riddled with holes, and packed with others much like ourselves, all trying to reach our destination points.

This is a competitors market. We face competition all across the state of Tennessee. We also face a wide range of challenges in todays current market and economy. Challenges can be anything from pricing, other industry competition, negative outlooks on having private security, lack of understanding of private security, the pros and cons of having private security versus having police presence, or even just simply the publics outlook on having armed protection agents. Each struggle can be unique in its own way and we navigate those struggles as they arise.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Without a doubt I love my country. With a very lengthy background in military and law enforcement, majority of my life has been devoted to protecting my country and the citizens that reside within, no matter what state. I have made it my life’s focus to provide protection for the citizens when they are in need at their most vulnerable moments and at times of hardship and distress. To simply put it, my work has been and always will be to protect the innocent and to preserve the way of life.

I specialize in more than just safety, security, and protection. We offer a wide variety of services to include mobile patrol, static guard services, seasonal or holiday guard services, risk assessments for all critical infrastructures, K-9 services, armed transport, and much more. I also specialize in training. Armed/unarmed security, basic firearms and defensive firearms, less than lethal certification, Dallas Law, CPR, Active Shooter, medical and stop the bleed. Our training provides anyone seeking a career in this field the tools necessary to succeed. But I don’t want to stop there. I want to grow much further. I take great responsibility and pride in providing that protection and training. I have spent countless of hours and days attending courses to further expand my knowledge and training in my field so that I may properly train, employ, and deploy the best and highly trained protection agents that are capable of handling any tasks they may face. I extend training to law enforcement officers and agencies as well, but more importantly the civilian population so that everyday citizens are better prepared to protect themselves and their families.

What am I most proud of? That’s easy. I am most proud of the Protection Agents and Off-Duty Law Enforcement Officers that have dedicated their time, skills, and efforts to bring the company where it currently is today. While they each have their own unique visions and dreams for themselves, they also share a passion and vision that I have set for myself and the company as we continue to grow. All of them continue to grow within themselves and build their own skillsets.

What sets my company apart from the others is our dedication to our clients and the citizens. From our work ethic, code of conduct, upholding the standards, and being knowledgable in the laws that govern our state, we strive to provide a service that is both personable but more importantly professional to all. We take immense pride in our professionalism to set the standard above others. We love hearing from businesses and local agencies all across the greater Nashville area that we have made contact with in the field, that our standards and work ethic have given them new hope and visions within the industry.

How do you define success?
Success can be defined in so many ways. I define success by simply providing the best services that I can provide as a business owner and company that makes my clients and the citizens feel happy, heard, and respected in knowing that they have made the right choice with Corvus. At the end of the day if those that have selected my company have been left with a feeling of safety, security, and gratitude in their choices of utilizing Corvus’s services and it leaves them with a warm heart and a smile, theres no dollar sign that can be put on that. To me, that is what success feels like!
