Life & Work with Bria Tate

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bria Tate.

Hi Bria, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started creating in elementary school. It started as a love for my art class, and I quickly gained a love for fashion and fashion design. I loved watching America’s Next Top Model and seeing how the fashion world worked. I started designing clothes and making jewelry as a hobby. However, I knew I wanted to be inclusive of all body types because they weren’t represented in the fashion industry then. Meanwhile, I was being body shamed and bullied at school for my appearance. It was a hard time for me, and it weighed on me. I grew very self-conscious and started to turn away from fashion because I didn’t feel “pretty”.

When I got to college, I started getting into art again and using it as my outlet. I focused a lot on the female figure to show how beautiful and special each woman’s body is. It was also the catalyst for my self-love journey. I not only wanted to show other women the beauty of our bodies but also to heal my inner child to let her know she was beautiful too. In my senior year of undergrad, I created a collection of art that focused on body positivity. So many people thanked me for helping them see the beauty in their flaws, and my heart lit up. I knew I wanted to help people heal themselves and incorporate my fashion style as a way to do so. I want to lead by example, so I started finding my style and healing myself.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Life creates challenges.

My biggest challenge was my self-esteem and learning to be myself and create in a way that fulfilled me and made me happy and not for others. This created a lot of insecurities about the way I looked and if I was good enough. I had to learn to not compare myself to others and know that my path was my own.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an artist, marketing professional, and content creator. My content focuses on style and self-healing. I find ways to create looks that can be worn every day but push the limits.

I enjoy wearing clothes that are unconventional. I use my style as a form of expression. I also create user-generated content for fashion, lifestyle, and beauty brands. What sets me apart is that I include healing in what I do specifically by using color theory and color psychology to encourage certain emotions.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
There are several books that I love: All About Love by bell hooks, Power of Your Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy, and The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. Music is a great inspiration for me creatively as well. I mainly listen to R&B and Neo Soul.
