Life & Work with Caroline Buck

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caroline Buck.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I was a student at College of Charleston, I was always looking for new ways to spend my time and express myself. I always knew I had a passion for fashion and lifestyle, so I figured, “why not document it?” That’s when I started my ByCreativelyCaroline Instagram account and blog. Since moving to Nashville, I’ve found so many ways to bring more content to the table; there are so many exciting things to do here that people want to hear about! I mean, what other city can you snack from a cheese conveyer belt, take photos with some of the country’s most famous murals, and have frozen cocktails on a tractor!?

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As they say, it hasn’t been a “straight” line. Entering the influencer world has a ton of challenges. I think that when I first started, I expected to gain thousands of followers in a year, but that wasn’t the case. The most important part is looking for small victories. Instagram offers so many tools to see engagement rates, and even though my following isn’t that of many “famous” bloggers, my engagement rate is two or three times the rate of some of them. The people that do follow me want to stick around because I offer them something they can relate it. I think it’s important to tailor your energy to those that ARE engaging with you – not those that you’re trying to get to be a loyal follower. It’s all about authenticity. Everything falls into place when you share what you’re passionate about to people who are interested!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a lifestyle and fashion blogger, which means that I share day-to-day activities in my life, like new restaurants I visit, advice I feel I should share, new decor items I’ve purchased, etc. Fashion-blogging is a bit more self-explanatory. However, I link all of my outfits on a program called Like to Know it, which allows for my followers to purchase my looks or those similar to my looks. It gives me commission each time someone shops my link (which isn’t much), but that’s totally OK. I just love sharing things that bring my joy, and if I can bring others that same joy, then I am happy!

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Take small steps. If you look like the big picture, it can be daunting. Asking “how can I get to x amount of followers in x amount of time?” is a question I’m pretty sure all bloggers ask, but the truth is, it should be avoided. Small victories and the joy that blogging brings you should be how you measure success. These days, Instagram and social media in general will measure success by numbers (especially that darn followers to following ratio), but it is so much more than that!
