Life & Work with Christian Orr

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian Orr.

Hi Christian, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Upon graduation from McEachern High School in Powder Springs, I was stomped about going to college or going to the marine corps. I originally started looking at Tennessee State University because of their track program and I didn’t want to be too close to home. I figured it was far enough and still kind of close at the same time. Fast forward to my sophomore year 2020 spring semester, I began to branch out more and network with more people. A few of my friends happen to be creatives and they helped bring that side out of me. I’ve always had a passion for photography no matter if I was in front of the camera or behind it. With that being said once started to dabble into my creative side the worldwide pandemic shut the world down. Covid had a major impact on my creativeness because I had a lot of free time. I started with my mom’s old Nikon camera and just went out and took pictures of everything. Once she saw I really had a love for photography she helped me buy my first camera which was a canon rebel T7. A few weeks later I downloaded Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom classic and begin to just start playing with edits of my pictures. Then I started to post my work on my Instagram @_groovyc

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As a creative, I’ve definitely had roadblocks from personal issues to just not being able to create or come up with a concept. It has been times where I’ve went weeks or months without creating something because I couldn’t think of something I wanted to do. Sometimes I’ll think I’m not good enough or I’ll think of something but it’ll come out totally different. I say this to say we all have bumps in the road and one thing I learned was to just keep working through it. I have a specific style of art and people love what I can produce. What I learned about being creative is I have a special eye for things and people come to you for that special project because you have a certain look or style in your art.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Groovyc is my Artist name and I specialize in photography, graphic design, and videography. The name Groovyc grew on me after a while, people started calling me by my Instagram name at school and in public. People begin to realize who I was and my work. The growth I’ve had in the past year and half since I’ve started really creating and putting my work out is surreal. I feel like my strong suit is really photography but I love it all and I’m aspiring to work on music videos with many artist. I’ve never been one to limit myself and my abilities so I want to do it all and my mom always told me to do it all and be great at what I do. What sets me apart from others is the vision I have for the projects I do. I’m planning to open up my own studio within the next year or two.
