Today we’d like to introduce you to The Monument Entertainment team. They share their store of The Monument concert venue with us here:
The founder and owner, Ron Mcgehee, was seeking an investment prior to the global pandemic in the commercial real estate world. The nearly 100-year-old financial institution, formally the Shenandoah National Bank, with its stunning architecture was the perfect fit for the venture.
Mr.McGehee was inspired when he visited the Birchmere of Alexandria, Virginia to see a performance by Ricky Skaggs.
He was inspired to turn this property into a hospitality and entertainment venue. Venturing beyond the scope of his work and life experience in manufacturing mechanical engineering, he entered a new spectrum of work. Immersing himself in the world of hospitality and entertainment brought him to building a team of industry professionals with like-minded goals and aspirations.
Two years later, the building has gone through a complete renovation and is now fully operating as the city of Winchester, Virginia’s premier concert and events venue. This action-packed project has required an assembly of talented audio engineers, project engineers, event managers, creative chefs, and talent buyers.
“We are excited to share our hard work and incredible venue with the Shenandoah community, DMV locals, and beyond!”
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
As with any business the road to success is rarely smooth.
In hurdling the many obstacles along the way, we are creating a culture that sustains the challenges of being an agile organization in an ever-changing world of art, music, and entertainment.
We have adapted to the changes in technologies and earned the trust of our partners.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Our core team is a versatile crew with over 60 years of combined experience in the industry.
Our director of operations, Justin Tenpenny, provides great directional planning and project management skills. He has been involved in both the hospitality and music industries for most of his life. His light-hearted character, firm disposition, and roadmaps to success are all qualities that lend to his great leadership.
Chryssi Elfstrom is the events manager that joins great people skills with her many creative talents to execute top-of-the-line events at The Monument. With a background in events planning, the entertainment industry is a new and exciting challenge that she has dove into headfirst with much passion! She looks forward to expanding the footprint of our venue with community engagement and supporting the arts.
Executive Chef, Chris Kenworthy, has worked all over the world creating beautiful and delicious food for the consumption of the body, mind, and spirit! As such a major personality, Chris has so many connections that have allowed our network of creatives and talent to flourish.
He is currently working on projects to elevate our food experience at The Monument with the ” Know Concessions” kitchen. His comedic relief is always a much-welcomed presence on the sometimes long and hard days executing a world-class venue.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, we all had a strong love for music in a wide spread of genres. As very outgoing people, this has translated into our adult lives wonderfully. It gives us so many opportunities to engage with our community and promote the uniqueness of our beloved venue.
