Today we’d like to introduce you to Corio.
Hi Corio, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky. I grew up in a split home, playing sports and joking around with instruments. I found my love for music at a young age, but I ignored it. I thought basketball was cooler than rapping and it seems like everyone else did too. As I grew up, I gained more and more of an urge to pursue music. Nobody pushed me to do it nobody really put me in a place to do it and I think that’s why I love it so much. After high school, I tried to go play basketball at a junior college and ended up transferring after my first semester. It wasn’t long before I started to get into selling drugs and partying.
I probably went to a total of five classes before I quit going to class altogether. About halfway through my second semester, I found a studio in Bowling Green Kentucky. I was going to WKU and a friend of mine knew somebody that I was a rapper. He introduced me to the studio and I immediately fell in love with the life. After about a year, I was able to find a home base with Steve White at the Dojo Recording Studio. Through networking and mingling, he was able to put me in contact with a four-time Grammy winner producer that goes by the name of Corbett. Now I live and breathe music every day.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. There’s been plenty of doubt, plenty of gatekeeping, plenty of haters, plenty of sleepless nights, plenty of zeros in the bank account and not after a number.
For the longest time, it was a struggle to get studio time and manage the finances that it takes to just have a simple independent career. That’s the thing about this game. It cost to even do the thing you love to do.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a hip-hop in R&B artist. I consider myself to be very versatile, having many types of vibes and genres branching off of my main sound. I’m most known for either my speed in the studio or the drastic difference between my love songs, and turn-up the music.
Almost proud of the connections I’ve made in the places music has taken me. None of those shaken hands and experiences can be replaced. My work ethic and my willingness to do whatever, go wherever, and ask any question.
We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking.
I am super big on taking risks. I take Major risks all the time.
Without taking risks I feel like you can never get exactly where you want to be. I also feel like without taking risks you leave a lot of room for regret. At the end of the day at least you know you tried it. I’ll hop on a plane and under a day’s notice, I’ll drive across the country, I’ll do just about anything for a good opportunity.
