Life & Work with David Arvisu

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Arvisu.

Hi David, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am from Denton, Texas and I started writing music when I was thirteen years old. I remember performing my very first song for the middle school talent show. It was then that I realized I have a passion for performing and composition. Over the years in high school and college, I would continue to write consistently until finally releasing my first album, “9” in 2017.

It was then when I also would begin my professional musical journey, attending every open mic and song showcase I could find. These performances led to more gigs over the years and I’ve been staying consistent with performing and writing. I remember one day in August of 2019, I met my friend and producer Bryan Fulton, who approached me about recording in his professional studio. This moment would have changed everything for me, as beforehand I had been producing everything on my own.

Bringing someone else on to work with really allowed me to focus completely on the music instead of the technical aspects that come with production. Not long after that, we made our first record together, my second album, “8”, in 2020. That album was a pivotal point at that time in my early career because it really showcased and challenged all of my skills as a musician and composer.

It opened up many doors for shows, and new opportunists and fans would follow. I’ve relocated to Nashville, TN, to continue this musical adventure. Bryan and I are currently working on my third album, “7”, that I plan to release hopefully at the end of this year.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
There have always been small hiccups along the way, whether that be a lack of an audience or the loneliness that comes with being an artist at times.

I feel like not a lot of folks know or talk about that part of it. I find most of my time I am alone doing all the work behind the curtains and only showing people the performances or what I’m up to as an artist. It’s not an easy industry to be in but it helps when you have people you can trust and count on the be there for you.

I’d say the most difficult thing for me at the moment is writing new material that is the next step forward musically but not too far-fetched to where it’s not believable. My goal is to write music that will draw new fans in and at the same time keep the ones that have been with me over the years happy as well.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a singer/songwriter. I would say I specialize in my own sound, which is very hard to put in a specific genre. I am known for writing music that comes from my heart.

My goal is to connect and resonate with the listener. I am most proud of the fact that people from all over the world have enjoyed my songs and given great feedback. I always tell myself that if I can make one person’s day better through my songs then I have done what I was meant to do.

I think what sets me apart most from others is that I am a mixed bag as a performer. You never know if I’m gonna bring down the house or put everyone in the feels. And I pride myself on being as authentic as an artist. Who you perceive me as an artist is who I am as a person.

What were you like growing up?
I’d say in my early childhood life, I was very reserved and quiet as I feared the judgment and criticism of others.

But, as I got older and music gave me an outlet to say how I feel, I become more confident in myself and able to communicate my feelings better.

Some would say that I am a kind and sweet individual, others would say I can be a little too energetic to be around.
