Life & Work with David Brown of DFW, Texas

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Brown

Hi David, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It started from at a very young age. I remember the earliest times of being reminded “who your family is”. And I never understood that until I got older. Music has been in my family for a long time apparently and I never paid attention to it until not long ago and took music serious. The earliest time I can remember was as a kid up in mountain home, ar. There would always be a weekend picking circle or performance in the park each weekend. Well one of these times apparently my “fuck it I’m gonna do it” attitude winded me up on stage taking the mic and singing Hey Good Lookin by Hank Williams Sr. because the person was butchering the song. I ended up teaching myself how to play guitar because of where we lived and money was not apart of our life. So I got a chord book and simple songs to learn to play. I focused only on the chord charts and jamming along with music I loved. From Waylon Jennings to Iron Maiden, to Motörhead, and then back to some George Strait. My music is a vast library. Then when I got more interested I finally asked who our family members were that were good at music. Come to find out my blood family goes from the first LT. Governor of Texas and first acting Governor was my 4th or 5th great grandfather all the way to music wise being Johnny Horton. That’s when I started digging more and found out a lot more. Some of the personal photos of Johnny Horton in the family with icons he would open or they would open for him are included. I realized they were apart of the Outlaws of country. Which connected more to me than anything as I don’t do mainstream country music. Too many people with auto tune, and sing about things they never done or ways of life they don’t even live or have ever done. So I see it as a purpose to help bring back Outlaw Country. There are many great artists out there keeping this alive. From late Charlie Robinson, to Billy Don Burns, John Cannon, and many more. These people inspire and live up to their songs and it’s life lived and sang about from experience. I’m blunt, real, and to the point. That’s where I started with my Drummer the band David & The Dirty Sinners. And through hard work and networking we’re starting to see some light. In waves recently. I’d love to talk more from my military service, to music, to my life as there’s a lot of rather voice instead of type as there’s too much to even fit. It’s been a rough life and many dark times and current. Music saved me and keeps me alive in those times as well. I’d love to talk more and thanks for you’re time.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Many struggles and mostly dark. From childhood, to deployment and injuries, to now. I’d love to actually talk more about this in voice instead of message as there’s too much to even fit in here to tell.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a singer, guitar player, and half ass songwriter. My vocals are pretty good though. Almost like golf you don’t ever master it. Recent pairings, friendships, and meeting new people have helped our music and talents take off and that’s why it’s finally being taken seriously to get into the studio for our upcoming EP.

Any big plans?
Wanting to play music and just that. Don’t look to get rich just reach people and connect. Music is the one thing everyone feels. You shouldn’t just hear music. We’re planning on releasing an EP as soon as we have the funds to do so and have it released hopefully by may but shows don’t pay as much as people think. And neither does the Va. And more and more venues shutting everyday because of mainstream venues and ticket agencies. We’re focused on getting our EP recorded and released and share our stories and life with our fans.
