Today we’d like to introduce you to Dawn Cunningham.
Hi Dawn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My life has been a journey of healing, growth, and rediscovery. I’ve faced trauma, navigated years of therapy, recovered from an eating disorder, and learned, often the hard way, what it truly means to connect with myself and with others. Along the way, I’ve had to unlearn survival patterns, rebuild my sense of self, and redefine what healthy connection looks like in my life. It’s been honest, painful, humbling, and deeply transformative work, one messy step at a time.
Through that journey, I created The Soul Goals platform and The Soul Goals Podcast as spaces rooted in authenticity, healing, and human connection. My mission is to remind people that healing is possible, that being seen and heard is our divine birthright, and that meaningful connection is essential to our existence as human beings.
I believe that when we slow down enough to truly listen to our own stories, clarity, purpose, and healing can begin to unfold. But it requires courage: the willingness to look inward, dig deep, and do the work. The Soul Goals is a space where vulnerability is welcomed, stories matter, words carry power, and transformation becomes possible. My hope is that through sharing openly, others feel less alone in their own journeys and more empowered to step into healing, self-acceptance, and connection.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road! I’ve had to really dig deep and do the work to learn how to build healthy relationships after spending so much of my life in survival mode. Healing has been messy, uncomfortable, and at times incredibly isolating. There were many moments where I felt disconnected from both myself and the people around me.
But starting The Soul Goals became empowering in a way I didn’t expect. By creating a space for others to share their stories, it gave me permission to be honest about my own. It required vulnerability and the willingness to share parts of myself publicly that I once wanted to hide. Over time, I realized those very parts of my story are what make me unique, and my hope is to help others see that their uniqueness, their voice, and their story matter too.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I actually love when people ask me, “What do you do for a living?” because my answer is always, “Whatever it takes!”
I’ve always believed in living a creative and diversified life, and I think that openness has helped me better understand and connect with people from all walks of life. Over the years, I’ve been incredibly honored to work as a stage performer, professional studio vocalist, voice-over artist, podcast host, author, and for more than 20 years, a personal trainer within the music industry, working with high-profile artists and industry professionals. That career honestly saved me in a lot of ways and naturally evolved into a more holistic view of health, healing, and overall well-being.
I recently released my book, The Soul Goals: Make Your Story Count, available on Amazon. It’s a 52-week personal growth journal designed to help readers dive deeper into self-exploration, healing, purpose, and goal setting.
My husband and I are also the faces behind “House And Spouse,” a fun and cozy online platform on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube that follows our adventures working together in the construction industry and navigating life as a couple. There’s definitely never a dull moment with the two of us!
Out of everything I’ve done, though, the role I’m most proud of will always be being a mom. The creative world continues to challenge and inspire me, but at the heart of it all, I believe life is about embracing our stories, owning our gifts, and showing up authentically. When we do that, we not only grow into ourselves, we create deeper connection with the people and communities around us.
What were you like growing up?
I grew up on a 200-acre farm in Ohio, which honestly was a pretty cool way to grow up. It gave me a mix of curiosity, independence, and a really strong work ethic. I’ve always been someone who loves both freedom and structure: I’m deeply creative, but I also love routine, discipline, and connection with people.
I started performing on stage at eight years old, and from there I became fascinated with the musical process overall. By the time I was a teenager, I knew I wanted to pursue music seriously, and that passion eventually evolved into many different paths within the creative world.
