Today we’d like to introduce you to Delaney Schueler and Emma Rowley.
Hi Delaney and Emma, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Dilemma Entertainment was created by Delaney Schueler & Emma Rowley. It started as an idea during a hot tub chat back in the early months of 2021. Both Emma and I are artists ourselves, and performing has always been a passion for us. Emma has been in two different Broadway productions in NYC. She was is Lupone Gypsy in 2008, and Bye Bye Birdie in 2009. She is able to bring that theatre talent to our clients, along with some professional vocal coaching. I, (Delaney) was on a traveling performance jump rope team starting when I was 8 years old until I was 13 called The Kings Firecrackers. We traveled all around the country performing halftime shows for places like The New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden, United Center for the Chicago Bulls, and dozens of NCAA basketball games. I have also been a dancer my entire life, performing on dance teams in my hometown. My love for dance and movement allows me to help focus on the movement aspect of performance coaching.
So, coming up with the idea to create a company where we can teach artists some of the things, we’ve learned along the way made perfect sense. Emma and I prepped for months creating our social media accounts, coming up with a plan to find artists, and perfecting and polishing up our coaching skills. We finally launched in June of 2021. We really had to build this company from the ground up. We started by giving some of our artist friends a free lesson so we could practice on them, get some content and they could learn some tips too. Doing that gave us the confidence we needed to start reaching out to artists around town that we didn’t know. Some incredible people agreed to meet us and took a chance on us. We now have a pretty stable list of clientele that were very lucky to work with. Not only do we get to work with extremely talented artists, but also some of the most down-to-earth people too. We started the new year off strong, adding a few new artists to our roster. Our goal is to grow our number of artists while staying close and personable with each of them too. Being a part of our artists team is our number one goal. We want to help them in any way we can. Building their confidence, finding their voice through their brand, and being comfortable in their own skin are all things we work on with our artists so they can really shine on stage.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Building a company from absolutely nothing, into something is extremely exhausting. We’ve both poured so much time and money into this company because we truly believe in it and love doing it. We’ve had people turn us down and tell us that there’s nothing we could teach that would help them. We even had someone book a session, pick a time and then not show up while we were waiting there. We never heard from them again. Those moments aren’t always fun, but we are blessed that there are people out there who have taken a chance on us and shown up. We’re definitely not perfect, and we don’t have all the answers, but we are confident in what we’ve learned over the years and we know were good at this. We know we can help artists take it to the next level.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We called ourselves Dilemma Entertainment Nashville so it could really encompass an array of services for our artists. Our main service is strictly Performance Coaching. Performance coaching basically means we are helping the artists’ work on their stage presence, including on or off-camera. Whether that is writers’ rounds, acoustic sets, full band shows, or even TikToks or live streams. We want our artists to feel extremely comfortable and well-rehearsed when it comes to their shows. A lot of artists have great music and a great voice, but making that connection with an audience is what creates lasting fans. So not only do we prep our artists for their live shows, but we also help them come up with and shoot TikTok ideas too. We find ways for each artist to authentically connect with their audience. We go to photoshoots and video shoots to help our artists get in the right headspace, so their emotion can match their brand perfectly. Having someone who knows the brand as well as the artist themselves do, standing behind the camera can make sure the pictures or videos come out exactly how the artist envisions them to. We also help them create setlists for their shows, thinking about the journey each song will take the crowd on and perfecting the order of that journey. Wardrobe is another huge thing some artists have asked for help on. Whether the outfits are for a photoshoot or show, we want our artists to have a similar look that applies to their brand and we can help them pull that together too.
We really encompass a lot of areas here at Dilemma Entertainment, basically anything we can do to build up our artists. The music industry can be tough, and a lot of people have strong opinions. We know what it’s like to be protective of our art. In a world of business people who can be harsh and brutal to artists, we want to lift them up and make them feel supported.
What matters most to you?
Our friendships with our artists I think are most important to us. We make group messages with each artist we work with so they can always reach us with any and all questions. Getting to talk and see them on more of a daily basis helps us grow closer with our artists and we call each of them friends now. One of our artists named Maylyn had a show last fall that we helped her prepare for. We got to go to the show ourselves and brought some of our family and friends with us. Even another one of our artists came out to support her too! Being able to see her growth on stage was such an incredible experience. She looked so confident on stage which was something she wanted to work on. Not only are our artists becoming better performers, but they seem happier too. They’re talents are growing, they’re able to actually have fun on stage and do what they do best since the movement and rehearsed parts were already perfected. And they have support and encouragement pouring into them. We want to always be the people who pour kindness and encouragement into our artists. The better they feel about themselves, the better they will perform. It’s really all connected!
We are very lucky to have such a fulfilling job where we can watch each journey of our artists.
