Today we’d like to introduce you to Diego Alvarez.
Hi Diego, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up with a Latino background, I have been instilled with a passion and expression for culture and the fine arts. I find that I express myself at my utmost fervor when I am given the opportunity to be creative. For that, food is the my medium. I started as a server at a local restaurant, making charcuterie for friends and family just for fun; Family get-togethers, small celebrations, anything in which I found an ounce of expression, I would be drawn towards. Creating new, creative takes in charcuterie and my own artistic expression, I began to look at food as not just an ingredient, but something with which I could create a masterpiece; Something that not only expresses art within itself but something that expresses who I am through simple ideas.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing is ever a smooth road. There is nothing as difficult, time-consuming, or pleasing as creating a product that the consumer appreciates and enjoys consuming as much as I love creating said product. As someone who is not only a business owner but a minority in my own right, creating something beautiful for someone else to enjoy is a process that comes with many obstacles which, when overcome, leads to great satisfaction within myself and my business. I find joy in creating a type of happiness that’s found and communicated through art. My art is food, and making art come alive through food is one of the most difficult, beautiful things I’ve had the opportunity to create. Obstacles only make you a stronger creative.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My business, Royal House of Cheese, is a catering business specializing in charcuterie and food as my medium. I specialize in grazing tables, luxury picnics, and anything that pushes “food art” outside of the box. I cater to weddings, events, and the art of growing small businesses within my own community by creating something special for each patron. I would not be where I am today if not for all of the support from other small businesses in my community, so I find that anything I can create to capture the creativity and entrepreneurship of a small business is what I specialize in. I am so thankful to experience the growth and love from a community of small business owners, to share my art with them, helping each other to present our own different strengths within what we’re passionate about is what I believe in, and support without a single doubt, by Royal House of Cheese.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
Anyone is more than welcome to support me by purchasing a cheese board, booking me for their wedding or event, or sharing my work with others via social media. I have a website www.royalhouseofcheese.com where anyone can order any seasonal or year-round piece from my collection and I will fulfill those orders as they come. My passion is sharing with others and creating elaborate pieces for everyone to enjoy.
