Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Bornhop.

Hi Eric, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was living in Southern Spain when I was inspired to create my clothing line, so I moved home and gained an apprenticeship with a living legend, Manuel Cuevas. He taught me the art of bespoke/couture tailoring and let me explore my tastes as a designer. My brand, Eric Adler Clothing, was born from the combination of these experiences.

ERIC ADLER is a true-bespoke, made-to-measure, and off-the-rack clothing line based in Nashville, TN. We create high-quality suits, shirts, jeans, jackets, accessories, and more for men and women. I work with fashion-savvy clients that have a hard time finding clothing off-the-rack that truly fits them properly and that suits their style

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The tornadoes that hit Nashville in March 2020 destroyed the building where my workshop/showroom was located in East Nashville. Several days later, the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the country.

I was forced to make some changes. I decided to stop taking alterations, which were a time-consuming part of my operation. That opened up space for more productive, better income-producing operations like my custom/made-to-measure operation. Since then, my business has been flourishing.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I create tastefully bold, high-quality suits, shirts, jeans, jackets, accessories, and more for men and women. I work with fashion-savvy clients that have a hard time finding clothing off-the-rack that truly fits them properly and that suits their style.

My attention to detail, eclectic taste, and experience as a tailor allow me to make comfortable clothing that looks great and will last a lifetime. I am certainly most proud of the garments that I create from scratch with and for my clients.

It is so rewarding to handmake a garment from scratch and see its’ owner wear it with pride and comfort for years.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the growth that Nashville has experienced in the time since I moved here in 2003, but I hate that, with so much new development, we are reducing the city’s mature tree canopy by so much every year.

I love that there are lots of cool small businesses that make Nashville a great place to live. I don’t love that there are fewer affordable commercial spaces available to entrepreneurs looking to start a new business.
