Today we’d like to introduce you to Haili Holzworth.
Hi Haili, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I moved to Nashville from Mansfield, Ohio when I was 22. I’ve been here for almost four years, and I have embarked hugely on a self discovery journey in my time here. I moved here on a whim, wanting to shed the sporty, work-til-you-die midwestern culture to embrace the creativity of this city and what it has to offer. I would say my experience has been nothing less than inspiring. My trials have taught me much. I am not the same person I was when I started out here. For that I’m grateful.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey definitely hasn’t been smooth. I have lost close friends and long-term relationships, been forced to walk out of a job, unemployment, social ostracism, familial grief— the list goes on. Being in your 20’s is hard. You’re trying to figure out who you are, what you like, find a routine that fits you, keep up a social life, immerse yourself in spaces you’re interested in; or the flip of that, distancing yourself from places and people you don’t align with.
While it all may feel like the end of the world to go through, these experiences have taught me so much about self worth and learning where I am appreciated. Overall, the ebbs and flows of the human experience.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a hairdresser, and have been since I was 19. There’s not many people who can say they are 7 years into their career at 25. I started Cosmetology school right after I graduated high school and haven’t let up on that since then. I like it fine enough, mostly because I love people so much. In my hard times, my clientele has genuinely kept me afloat and in high spirits. 99% of my clientele is women, and I love hearing their stories of life experiences and their wisdom.
I also have much freedom in my field, which led me to starting my blog last year called “Between the Lines” on blogspot. I have always loved writing, literature, and music. I am more of a creative minded person, and I have lived with the weight of being the black sheep most of my life. I write mostly about self development and life experiences— but I do dabble in some poetry from time to time! Of course, some music scene stuff is in there too.
I am most proud of my intellectual ability to connect well to people and hear their stories. There is always something new to learn from others and their experiences. If you’re always the smartest person in the room, well, you’re in the wrong room(s). What sets me apart from others is the way I acknowledge others, whether that’s in a quiet understanding, or loving them loudly.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Honestly, I love having conversation. Tell me about the time you swung for the fences and really hit a home run, or sat on the bench in desperation to be out on the field. Time is the most valuable thing we have in life, and when you understand others better, you will understand yourself better— inevitably making you more poised, smarter, and trusting with your own decisions. If I can learn from someone else’s mistakes, and not waste my life learning them myself, that is the best support someone can give you: knowledge.
