Life & Work with Hana Eid

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hana Eid.

Hi Hana, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
From the time I was maybe eight years old, I knew I wanted to make a career out of music.

I grew up learning electric guitar, specifically rock and blues, from the likes of Led Zeppelin to Eric Clapton. With that said, I knew I loved writing, and actually devoted a lot of time to writing short stories and novellas in elementary school. These two passions later developed into a love for songwriting.

I grew up in Fairfax, Virginia in a very musical household. My dad was the drummer in an alternative rock band called “emmet swimming” in the 90s. During the prime of the band, they were signed with Epic Records and toured nationwide.

With a ton of support at home in pursuing music and a role model to look up to, I began booking my own shows at coffee shops, breweries, and popular D.C. venues at the age of 15. It all really began to pay off when I moved to Nashville in August 2021 to attend college at Belmont University.

Now, I’m continuing to push even harder to release new music, develop my sound, and perform live with my band. I’m fortunate to have been blessed with the opportunities I’ve had thus far and am looking forward to capitalizing on this momentum moving forward.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think I had a tough time in high school. I didn’t have the easiest time socially, or receive much support for my music outside of the household, which could be demoralizing at times.

However, I think this also pushed me to throw myself into my work, and continue to grow as an artist. I was able to devote so much time to practicing guitar, songwriting, and connecting with local venues and musicians. I don’t think I would have grown as much as an artist without those difficulties.

With that said, being at Belmont and in the Nashville community is like a breath of fresh air. I’m surrounded by people as passionate, driven, and eager as I am. From my experience, the creative community in Nashville has truly been welcoming and loving unlike any other.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I think what I’m known for is definitely my songwriting and live performances, which can range from high-energy indie-rock to intimate acoustics.

In the future though, I really hope to share more of my background in electric guitar with my audience. I want to share myself not only as a songwriter but also as an instrumentalist.

One of the things I’m proudest of is the time I’ve devoted to my craft and technique as a guitar player. I am incredibly passionate and would love to show that side of myself through future releases and live performances.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I think I was pretty extroverted. My parents always called me a “dare-devil” because I wanted to do everything — skateboard, skydive, you name it — by the time I was maybe six or seven.

I would spend full days climbing trees, biking, and swimming in creeks. I loved spending time outdoors and exploring. I also loved making friends. I was the kid that knocked on all my neighbor’s doors or would ask my classmates: “Can we be friends?” during recess. I think one reason I love performing so much is because of the human connection it facilitates. I really, really love people and feeling in touch with those around me.

Beyond that, I also really enjoyed reading and story writing as a kid. I learned how to read around the age of three, and have been reading pretty consistently ever since. Reading has really allowed me to tap into my creativity in a new way. I’m constantly inspired by stories, whether it be through books, people, etc.
