Today we’d like to introduce you to Jack Costigan.
Hi Jack , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved to Nashville in my early twenties without a network or any background in real estate. I just knew I wanted to build something long-term and meaningful. I got licensed, started learning the business from the ground up, and quickly realized how much consistency, discipline, and patience this industry really takes.
My first couple of years were slow and honestly pretty challenging, but they taught me how to communicate better, market smarter, and truly understand the numbers behind the market. Over time, that work started to compound. As the business became more consistent, I shifted from operating as a solo agent to building what is now The Costigan Group at Compass.
Today, our team works with residential buyers and sellers, relocations, and investors throughout Greater Nashville. What I enjoy most now is not just the transactions themselves, but creating systems, mentoring agents, and building something that can outlast me. It’s been very much a step-by-step journey, and I’m grateful for every stage of it.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all — it’s been far from smooth. The early years were the hardest. I didn’t have a built-in sphere, so every client had to be earned the hard way. There were long stretches where I questioned whether I’d picked the right path, especially when deals fell apart or months went by without a closing. Real estate is a business of momentum, and when you don’t have it yet, it can feel very isolating.
As things started to grow, the struggles just changed. Transitioning from being a solo agent to running a team came with a whole new set of challenges — hiring the right people, learning how to lead, managing cash flow, and building systems while still staying focused on clients. You go from worrying about your own survival to being responsible for other people’s livelihoods.
The biggest struggle overall has been learning patience and resilience. Nothing in this business is linear. You can do everything right and still have things fall apart. But those moments have shaped how I operate today — with more clarity, better structure, and a deeper appreciation for the process.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a Realtor and team leader at Compass in Nashville, and at the core of what I do is help people make confident, well-informed real estate decisions. Whether it’s someone buying their first home, relocating to the city, or selling a place full of memories, I never lose sight of the fact that these transactions are deeply personal. My role goes far beyond contracts and negotiations — it’s about guiding people through big life moments with clarity, honesty, and care.
A large part of my work today is in luxury real estate and investment property, with a particular focus on short-term rentals. That specialty came naturally as Nashville exploded as a destination city and more buyers started looking at real estate through both a lifestyle and investment lens. Short-term rentals require a very different level of strategy — zoning, permitting, revenue projections, operating costs, and long-term exit planning all matter just as much as the home itself. I take a very analytical, education-first approach with those clients because the numbers have to make sense for the dream to work.
What I’m most proud of is the culture we’ve built within The Costigan Group. I started this business from scratch, and today it’s grown into a team that truly supports one another and our clients at a high level. Watching newer agents gain confidence, build their careers, and take care of their own families through this business is incredibly meaningful to me. I’m also proud that so much of our work comes from repeat clients and referrals — that’s always been the greatest measure of trust in my eyes.
What sets us apart is the way we combine heart with structure. We don’t operate off hype or pressure — we operate off preparation. We study the market daily, we track data obsessively, and we communicate constantly so our clients never feel in the dark. At the same time, we lead with empathy and patience, because every deal carries real emotion behind it. For me, real estate has always been about helping people build security, freedom, and a sense of place — and that’s something I’ll never take lightly.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
The easiest way to work with me is simply to reach out and start a conversation. Whether someone is thinking about buying or selling a home, investing, or even just trying to better understand the Nashville market, I’m always open to connecting and offering guidance. Most of my best relationships have started with a casual conversation and grown from there.
For collaboration, I love working alongside builders, designers, lenders, photographers, content creators, and other entrepreneurs who care deeply about quality and client experience. Real estate is such a relationship-driven business, and the best outcomes always come from strong teams working toward the same goal.
Support means a lot of things to me — referring friends and family, sharing our work, or simply staying connected. I’m incredibly grateful for every client, partner, and supporter who’s helped shape this journey so far, and I try to give that support right back whenever I can.
