Life & Work with Jeremy Castle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Castle.

Jeremy Castle

Jeremy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I took my first guitar lesson as a senior in high school a Blanchard High School. I took a month’s worth of lessons at a place in Norman. I bought a new guitar while in college and took a college guitar class as a sophomore. I spent the next two and a half years practicing chords and trying to learn chords to many of my favorite songs.

By the time I graduated college, I began to write some myself and had written three original songs of my own. Over the next couple of years, I wrote several songs and started finding places where I could sing and perform my songs live with house bands. I sang in Oklahoma, Texas, and Missouri wherever I could and whenever the opportunity arose.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I feel like music is a winding road with many ups and downs. It is a lot of work trying to make contacts and reach out to industry professionals to get a foot in the door. I have found the best thing to do is try to master your craft. You need to be able to do all the things yourself and not depend on someone else to give you a break or discover you.

You need to learn to play an instrument if possible. You need to try to write your songs, perform the songs, and release the songs yourself. You also need to find places to play and get your music out there as well as get experience performing live.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I consider myself a singer-songwriter. I have a YouTube channel where I promote my songs and I have been fortunate enough to have a fanbase of supportive listeners from various places around the globe.

I write whenever I can and try to put the songs I write out there for listeners to hear. I also enjoy performing covers of some of my favorite songs by other artists as well.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I am a big believer in collaborating and working with other artists and songwriters when writing songs. I think co-writing is very beneficial to songwriters.

Many of the great hits are co-writes. I think a song benefits from having more than one person contributing to try to make it better. I am always glad when I get an opportunity to write with other artists and writers.
