Life & Work with Joshua Nichols of Hermitage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Nichols

Hi Joshua, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been singing as long as I can remember, and when I was eleven years old my dad got me my first guitar. After I learned how to play it decently enough to play and sing at the same time I started performing anywhere and everywhere I could. I started a band with my best friends in 2012 and toured the country with them for about eight years before moving to Nashville. When I moved to town, I began taking my songwriting way more seriously than I had before and before I knew it I was getting to sit in writing rooms with some of my musical heroes! It’s been a crazy journey, and I’m so excited to see where things go from here!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I don’t know if I would use the word “smooth” or not when describing the journey I’ve been on, but I do know it has been fulfilling and there’s not a single thing I would change about it. I know I’m not the only one that has been offered empty promises from industry professionals, and ended up having my hopes crushed when nothing came from them, but at the end of the day I am extremely grateful for every conversation that I’ve had since moving here. Each encounter has prepped me in some way for the encounters I’ll have later in life and so I know that nothing has been wasted!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a singer/songwriter who writes songs for people wrestling with faith, church, and belief in general. I’ve released some pop songs in the past but quickly realized that I wanted my music to be more than just songs. I’ve started to create a small community for these people outside of the songs I release, and the opportunity to help friends navigate these things in their life is the thing I’m most excited about.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I’ve gone through about ten years of trial and error in an attempt to present the most authentic version of myself on social media platforms. Before I release anything on socials, I always make sure that it feels real, and that my intent for the post is to help other people more than myself.
