Today we’d like to introduce you to Jude Toy. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Jude Toy grew up in the Pacific Northwest and moved to Nashville to pursue a career as a singer-songwriter. She was originally brought to Nashville by EMI Music Publishing to write and record demos with the purpose of getting a record deal. Soon after she arrived, Jude started a duo called The Darlins. The Darlins toured and performed nationwide and internationally for years. They opened for many well-known artists such as Dwight Yoakam, Daryl Worley, Tommy Tutone, and Montgomery Gentry. Jude is now continuing her career as a songwriter and has been blessed to write with some of Nashville’s biggest songwriters, including Doug Johnson, Danny Wells, Casey James, Tony Mullins, Kostas, Tia Sellers, Mason Douglas, Brian White, Ben Calhoun and many others. She recently started a publishing company, Teal truck Publishing, she is a founder and is a full-time writer.
Jude has the vision to empower and inspire creative people to write songs that will have a long-term impact. She wants to work with writers to develop their strengths and to create music that means something. Songs that writers are proud of and that will reach people in a positive way. Teal Truck isn’t a typical publishing company. It’s a unique business that truly desires to see its writers grow and experience something that other companies don’t offer. “We are very hands-on and involved with our writers, we expect them to work hard and to become innovators in the music industry”.
Teal Truck wants to discover writers they believe in and writers that want a long-term relationship with a publishing company. Teal Truck prides itself on seeing those writers come full circle with their talent. They have launched their first writer, Andrew Holland, and plan to work closely with Ben Calhoun from the acclaimed Christian group Citizen Way. This is the beginning of a company that has vast potential to really make a mark in the industry.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road is never smooth in my opinion, but for me, I feel the challenges and obstacles have made me the person I am today. Having to struggle for many years has made me a better writer and has taught me the value of being grateful. Many times, I struggled with being able to create music and eat, pay bills and survive. I worked in retail for many years to sustain my income and at times 14 hours a day. I would often play shows after work or take meetings on lunch breaks and days off. My faith has grown tremendously and I always say, please follow any good thing I have done with “Because of God” I am so very thankful for all I have been given and hope to be a light and inspiration for other songwriters and business owners.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a full-time songwriter. I own and operate a publishing company “Teal Truck Publishing,” I have signed two writers and we have a small staff. I am so proud of our business and how it is growing. I am very proud of my writing and how much I have learned. I absolutely love to write songs. It gives me joy and satisfaction to write something that I know will bless other people. Music has that ability to reach people in a way that is unique and I feel very blessed to have that gift.
There are a few things that set me apart. I have tremendous faith and work ethic. I believe all things are possible, so that enables me to do things that others may not attempt.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I love what I do and I hope that I am always light and inspiration to others. I appreciate your readers taking the time to read this story and welcome them to check out Tealtruck.com. Thank you so much for your time.
